I just want to make sure (there aren’t any assembly instructions)-
I need to install the standard 13 loose roller bearings on the inside of the shaft?

Look on WH on line for instructions. Nobody seems to want to put a pc of paper in a boxof parts anymore. I really dislike having to look up instructions on my phone. Too small, have to scroll too much, royal pita because I can't listen to my tunes then because my phone has to be plugged into my amp for Pandora. :)

What a whiner...

Can I get witness!
The only instructions on the WH website are for the VSS / Speedo assembly. The accompanying video is just Mitch talking about how awesome the product is. There are instructions for the DIY version, but they don’t exactly apply. The Advanced Adapters instructions are only for Jeep/Scout D20’s.
But I noticed that the AA says explicitly not to use a gasket, just silicone. I was curious why the kit did not come with a gasket, but I have a full rebuild kit, so I wasn’t worried.
Should I pull the gasket?
And how much endplay should this unit have? It’s loose, like probably .030” loose.
The AA site says they have pre-assembled and adjusted for shims. My unit came in a AA box, inside a WH box.
I suppose I should call WH. But I really wanted to build it this weekend.

DirtDonk Paul, do you know anything about this unit and what the installation procedure is?

Thanks,

Hinmaton

I get this, that's why I print it all out at the ofc the day before I put it all together, including the advice from here,

Hinmaton,
I get what you are saying with lack of instructions. WH is just the reseller for AA, so I would do explicitly what the little bit of AA instructions say, and maybe keep bumping the thread, post up in pirate4x4, or FB early bronco. Hope someone chimes in for ya.

The end play is a concern, another thread poster on here had the same issue, I think Wild Houses helped him get it corrected. The do it yourself kit actually has you set it up with a slight preload, no end play. Don't know why the assembled version would have end play especially, that much!

Here it is: https://classicbroncos.com/forums/showthread.php?t=304923

Thanks for the heads up. Something to do next week. I can't even get the promo video to run.?:? I sent a note to the web person who will work on this.

As for the 13 bearings hold them in place with assembly lude or grease. I don't put them in until I'm ready to bolt the case up to the trans. That way they can't fall into the case. Better yet bolt everything up on the bench if that's an option. Looks like you have a t-case to assemble first. Good luck with the project.

Just got of the phone with the head engineer at AA. I also pulled a unit off the shelf and found the same end play issue. This will be a call to AA Tuesday to see what's going on with the end play. It should be around .002 almost not detectable.

You should not have to but if you want to take the unit apart and work with the shims to get the thing down to where it should be you can. Also I will be here (WH) for a little while if you shoot me a PM with your number I can give you a call and maybe walk you through it.

WILDHORSES Jim,
I was able to get it out of the case. I’m going to try to re-set the preload.

I pulled the unit apart to check the shim stack, but there is just one.
I pulled the stack out of my original unit and well, it’s many but the ID is obviously too small. I’m going to put it back together and run it. AA can send me another when they have have figured out what the problem is.

This post dealing with the AA output shaft & Jim Creel spending extra time after hours is a great example of our Bronco vendor's helping us out when things arent going as planned!

Thanks Jim C. ;)

Agreed. Other than being confused and disgruntled with Advanced Adapters, this went really well. The phone call was unexpected and very much appreciated.
Thanks to Jim @WH4x4 and John @JBCustom this turned out well.
I couldn’t be more pleased with how this all came together. The JB Custom stuff is really nice and the packaging and packing was some of the nicest I’ve seen.

And a some very understated thanks to Jacob @Behemoth... who’s product is really nice but...

Thanks,

Hinmaton

Thanks for posting a picture the finished assembly.

Note: The excessive endplay in the output typically creates a situation where you will pop into neutral from rear wheel high. That can cause gear damage when it pops out.

Drat! The shim pack being a solid spacer leaves no room for adjustment. So... either I’m waiting on a new unit or for a shim pack.
It will be a minute before I get this on the road.

So I will most likely just use it is for mocking up the new cross member, cable shifters and 4 link rear. Hopefully by then AA will have gotten back with me, and I can swap it back out.

Thanks again for the great parts!
