What fans do you 5.0 folks run?

Hello - I am finially getting in my bronco a 1990 mustang 5.0. I am using the mustang accessories. What fan are you 5.0'ers using? I got this motor a while ago (Before folks started say it was better to use the accessories/water pump etc from a 96/97 explorer).

I am not installing the air pump but am trying to keep the AC comp on (For future AC in my bronco - one dream at a time). Is there a fan set up that will work with the stock mustang motor & stock bronco radiator? Would it be better to remove the AC comp for fan clearence?

Thank you for your input!

Depends on how much room you have. I'm using the BC Broncos fixed pitch fan with a shroud. I've got a pretty healthy cam with Eldelbrock heads and roller rockers. Gets no where near hot. Stays right where it's supposed too. But if you have space issues you'll have to use an electric pusher fan on front of the radiator.
Hear a lot of people use the Taurus fan. I have no experience with that one though.

I am also using BC's fan but it is loooooooooouuuuuuuudddddddd!

No cooling issues though. I have the explorer setup waiting in the wings to use the clutch fan and get rid of the jet turbine sound under the hood.

Mustang or explorer stock fan, I tried a flex fan, it ate the radiator.

If you have the room, the Tarus electric fan. I was running the flex-a-lite race fan ( similar to the BC fan). It is loud, but did a real good job.

solid blade fan w/ steel shroud. if you go this route be sure to use the correct spacer to keep fan about 2-2 1/2" from radiator.

Good luck with that. I ran the Mustang serp setup and I was lucky to have 3/4 of an inch in front and 1/2 an inch behind.

That's my problem with the mustang serp & motor - little room. What fan did you run Socal Tom? I really dont want to do the explorer setup (I'm trying to get this to work w/o having to get more parts).

What are you mustang 5.0 serp folks using for a fan and did you keep or delete the mustang AC comp?

I had the thicker 4 row radiator, so I had to move it forward about 1/2 an inch. Then I could fit the race fan like BC sells. If you have a stock 3 row size (2.25 inches). Then you can fit the race fan without moving anything. You get 3/4 to an inch in front and about 1/2 an inch behind. I kept the A/C pump for on board air.

Try the 94-95 mustang electric. I've been running it for a couple years with no overheating issues.

The Taurus and stang electric fans are good, the mark vii has the same motor but bigger fan/shroud. you will need an alternator that has 100A plus output and of course the room for it. If FORD used them they will last and meet the cooling requirements of the 5.0l HO.

I don't get it. I have the Mustang 5.0 (Saleen mustang) and have plenty of room. Fixed fan sits perfect in the shroud. Notched my front suport and moved the radiator forward an inch and to the pas side about 1/4 inch. But that was so I could move the steering box forward when I pushed the front axle forward. Had to use a spacer to get the fan back where I wanted it. Strange.

I have a 91 5.0 H0, I used a flex a lite 6 blade and a 3/4" spacer. I still have about a 1" gap between the stock radiator and the gap on the engine side is about 1/2" Great cooling power very stable temps, and as others noted a bit loud.

Taurus fan is sweet and I love mine. Problem is, you won't have room w/ your mustang serp and stock radiator. No way, no how! Taurus fan is about 4.5" thick. I run Explorer serp and 4.0L explorer radiator and it fits sweet. Also moved my core support forward as far as I could which gave me another 1 7/8". Tons of room now. To stay simple w/ your setup I'd try a stock stang fan if it'll fit.
