What is this canister under the hood?

Can anyone tell me what this canister on the passenger side fender well is? It has coolant running through it, and has some electrical connections of some sort.

I'm not in the same location as the Bronco right now, but I remember it not having any markings on it.

Looks like a coolant heater to warm and circulate coolant for easier stating and faster warmup in cold weather. Does it have a 110 plug on the end of the wiring?

I'll need to check. It does have what I thought was an engine block heater. Maybe that's actually what the plug is for.

Block heater that works by heating and circulating the coolant? That makes sense! Just hadn’t considered it. I think I’ll remove it.

It depends on where you live and the climate. I bought a used LTD once (originally from North Dakota), living in Portland, OR where it snows occasionally but not much. On a cold December night I plugged it in just for grins and went to bed, woke up the next morning for work to 2" of snow. The snow was melted off of the hood and the 390 fired right up ready to roll. I turned on the heater to nice hot air and went right off to work... thinking, "how cool is this?"

Yeah, I live in UT. It does get cold here, but this isn't a vehicle that I'm going to drive when it's cold.
