What size DOM for threading 3/4 heims in without bungs???

Alright, just gotta do my steering and I am on the road, I am using 3/4 heims and need to pick up the right tube, also where to get the tap for threading the tube. Or is it easier/cheaper to just buy the weld on bungs?

I am going to be using the 3/4 FK heims for tie rods, drag link and track bar,
What size DOM tube is it that can be directly threaded to accept the heims,
also where can I find the tap for that and what size is the tap?

Also is it really necessary to do RH thread on 1 side and LH thread on the other, it would make adjustment a snap but other than that it isnt necessary is it?

Hey josh there is a place right down the road from you that can get the links made for you. Can't remember the exact name i think its r and p differentiuals or something along those lines, its towards oregon city. They mostly do jeep differentials custom built. Guy owns a red bronco with leaf spring front end. Anyway i had them make my links for me they send it out to someone else but it was only like 60-70 bucks for my tie rod cut to length and taped on both ends one right hand one left hand. Believe its 1.25 dom tubing .250 wall.

A 3/4-16 UNF tap requires an 11/16" (.688") pilot hole. Based on that dimension, select your OD and wall thickness accordingly. I would suggest tapping it in a lathe so that it's straight...and if it's in a lathe, you could always drill it to whatever size you want so long as it isn't too big to begin with.

The weld-in bungs are relatively inexpensive and much easier IMO if you don't have access to a lathe and the taps. Just make sure you thread a bolt into them when you weld them in place as I've seen some people distort their threads badly enough that they had to be chased with a tap. I blame the poor welding technique, but better safe than sorry.

Excellent, I think I have decided to do the bungs, found someone with the bungs and heims that I need, just need to get the tube. I decided on the DOM 1.5" OD 1" ID. Thanks for the help guys!

That's what I am doing for my steering.. Weld in bungs and the same size tubing. But I am using the Chevy tie-rod ends instead of heims. Where are you getting your bungs from? I got mine from http://www.ballisticfabrication.com/

I am building my own tie rod, drag link and trac bar for D60 right now out of 1.5 x .250 wall DOM and using the 1 ton TRE's with weld in bungs. It is very easy to do. The weld in bungs are super easy to do and you can the RH and LH bungs to make adjusting things a snap.
