What type of hardware to attach headlight trim rings??

Hey guys
I just got a real nice set of used chrome trim rings for my headlights. One of the previous owners replaced the chome ones and painted them black. Also they just used some sheet metal screws with some little speaker clips on the backside to hold the screws.

I know that can't be the right hardware. I know I can get some stainless scres and nuts, but there must be a better way.

So how were they held in place fron the factory?? I assume there are some little plastic tabs that the screws must go into, but not sure.

Thanks
Don

They used stamped metal "speed nuts" and sheet metal screws. No plastic and no regular type of nuts (you could not get them off easily if it sued a regular nut).

You can see some at McMaster-Carr by looking at page 3007 at the "J" style. Type in "3007" in the search field and it should direct you to the page.

They *could* be the "U" style, but I can't recall for sure off-hand. Either one is will work and is the same basic idea. The "J" just has a shorter "leg" on the one side.

Thanks Drew
I just looked at the site you listed. the previous owner used Rectangular Speed Nuts for some unknown reason.

There is a good autobody supply place close to me, I will pick some of the J type up.
