When is a Bronco, No Longer a Bronco?

I think that a Bronco is what we say it is. If I tell a guy out on the trail "Nice buggy" then his reply is "Thanks, but it's a Bronco", well I guess it's a Bronco, registration confirms it to boot.

I don't know what magical part makes the transformation but no matter what mods I've done, I'll still call it a Bronco, until I don't. :)

HaHa!!! I've been asked this question a million times! Mine is a 79 Bronco to ME, and always will be!! But you have to look close to realize it ecspecially from the side.

;D grasping at straws!!;D

I say do what you want with your rigs, have fun and who cares what other's think it's yours. Now having said that I will say by some peoples thoughts I could hang Bronco skins on a CJ body and call it a bronco?;D

I prefer to call mine "Howiebilt" but most folks call it a Bronco Buggy ;)

It is more bronco than not ... 302 , C4 , Dana 44 front and 9" rear with a Dana 20 "J" shift transfer case , bronco grill , bronco front and rear fenders and a bronco hood . The only things that didn't come from Ford , on my Bronco , are the frame , the suspension and the rear disc brakes .

I don't know where this thread is going but I know that if I post a picture of the "Howiebilt" on another site like Toyota, Land Rover , Jeep or Suzuki ... they would kick me out for having a BRONCO . It hurts , just a little , that somebody from this site would ask such a question .

I consider myself an equal opportunity Bronco lover. If someone says it's a Bronco, for cryin' out loud I'm all for it. I'm not going to argue whether their rig is BC(Bronco Correct) enough to be a Bronco. I hate PC(Politcally Correct), I'm deffinately not going to be BC, no offense Chuck. ;D LOL
Having a Chevy motor does requires an intervention though.
Except, I don't know how much room I have to talk as I plan on, some day Lord willing, putting in a 4BT.
So lets have a big frickin' melting pot of Broncos and not differntiate.
It's like the abortion issue, when does it become a baby? My oppinion is right away at conception. Right then you are a human being. Sure later on you can have a heart, kidney, and if you're really sick a liver transplant. But you're still a human being. Same thing with a Bronco.
Broncos are like people, lol. They come out of the factor and never look the same after that.
My 2 cents.

For me, this is a no-brainer. I see this picture and see nothing but Bronc. The lines are all there. This one and Howie's are both awesome rigs! I'm personally in love with the body style. Stone me if you will, but I don't even care about the drivetrain. :-X Although, my trash is all Ford. ;)

I love specialty rigs and especially when it is built on a bronco platform. I am still in the parts gathering and time management phase of my build but I am going to start with a Bronco. May not look too much like one by the end but no auto manufacturer has ever come close to building what any of us believe to be the perfect rig for a certain application. If there was, they would be a monopoly and the aftermarket wouldn't exist. There is a point though that a project is less Bronco than it is aftermarket or custom (BC, JBG, WH, Tom's, personal creation). That doesn't mean much to me though. The spirit is still Bronco like it began and the best part is, you will never have to say it is a Jeep ;). I love Jeeps also but it is busch compared to building something custom to me. I think the aftermarket is still in its infancy in comparison to other model's aftermarket.

Now just cutting for flares just to do it for looks is a different story....

It ceases to be a Bronco when you put a chevy engine in it! ;D

Now that's a different story all together, the engine is the heart of the beast and changing it to something else like a chevy is an issue.;D ;D ;D

I still think it's a bronco but we can respond like how a Bronco purist is disappointed at us for all the mods we've made from factory, cutting fenders, lifts, etc. (you know who you are).

We just keep going down the line. It's no fun if were not giving someone a hard time and vise versa.

Or:
Chevy brakes
Chevy front tie rods
Quadrajet carb
Other brand seats

Want more?
Just read thit site!

Blubuckaroo - Not so! ;D

I have chevy front disks, honda seats, my Warn winch is branded Land Rover, my parking brake handle is from a dodge colt. But I draw the line at putting a chevy engine in a Bronco. Even a 4BT would be OK because it's one of the better diesel solutions available. But why stick in a chevy V8 when a 5.0 or 351 just as good as (and some will argue better than) any chevy?

Now an LT1 in a 68-72 Blazer would be a nice truck . . .

A motor doesn't have a soul! It's just an iron box full of pistons an stuff! %)
And by the way, a Chevy motor conversion is one of the easiest IMPROVEMENTS you can make.
