Where to get Windshield?

All,

My old Windshield has quite a few "fixed" cracks in it. With all the work I am doing, I want to be able to see outta this Rig.

Where have you all gone for the new Windshield? Should I just go through Safelite, who my insurance (USAA) uses?

Does anyone know how badly they might intend on raping me?

Thanks!

Hey Primate,
I think everyone always says to find a shop that cuts glass since it is just a flat rectangular piece of glass. I personally don't have any experience with the windshield it's the only piece that isn't rusted out. ;D

Primate,
I just spent 185.00 for mine. Now the ol' lady tells me we have 100.00 deductible on windshields. There was a thread a while back. Seemed like the average was between 160-200. Mine looked a little scary and I finally feel like it's not gonna hit me in the face at 60 mph.

Good Luck, and if your insurance will pay half +- why not use their shop?

Just did mine up here in the great white north
The glass company just cut it out of flat windshield glass. Took them a hot 10 minutes to change mine. Cost me 85 bucks plus tax for it.

I just had mine done for $125 installed. I bought the Dennis Carpenter gasket from Jeff's for $40, so it was $165 total. I called all over town and found a shop that had the stock Ford LOF glass.

I picked mine up from Auto Glass Center - installed it myself though. Glass ran somewhere around 70 bucks. They happened to have one in stock. I'd just call around to the local glass shops. If you have help the glass is SUPER easy to install. I actually used weed trimmer string in the crack when installing it, and just pulled it out, working around the frame.

Mine cost $135 installed and is the green tinted type call all the shops I found prices vary from each shop at least $20 or more also if your not going through the insurance company tell the shop the prices are usually lower. In my view paying the extra$$ for glass coverage on an EB is not worth it unless you brake a lot of windshields.

Mnky,

I had Safelite to do mine in the '71. I had the gasket/ seal w/slot for trim that I had gotten from LMC. He insalled the glass and trim and did a really nice job. He did it while it was even sprinkiling rain and was careful to keep Blue in the dry. It was like 125.00 if I remember right for the glass, rear view mirror install, and labor.

There's a company in AZ that does scratch & chip resistant lexan windshields that are super light. I can remember the name right now.

Windshield replacement in FL is free thru insurance....well we know nothing is free with insurance. I am going to end up calling whomever can come to me.
