I have dropped my transmission and am changing the flywheel and clutch and am having a ridiculous time figuring out what to get. Motor stamp is dated as a 84’ 351W sitting in my 69 bronco

This may be stupid but the flywheel is stamped C5AE 6380-E which means it’s suppose to have 164 teeth… I have counted 5 times and it has 168…what am I missing????? Smdh…

clutch is 11” w 3 finger pressure plate

Congratulations. You have discovered that Ford Casting numbers are not "part numbers" and are not "assembly numbers." Sometimes they are just "numbers"

The C5AE-6380-E is an Engineering number assigned to the flywheel casting. The "real" engineering number is stamped somewhere else on the flywheel. The C5AE-E casting was used for the C5AE, and the C5OE, and the C6OE, and the C7OE and C7AE. For the original 1965 casting, the ring gear was specified as a 168 tooth. By 1967, the C7 parts all got 164 tooth ring gears. Replacement and service ring gears are all now 164 tooth.

Can you confirm that you have a STAMPED C5AE-E, or is it a CAST C5AE-E, with a different stamp somewhere else?

Of course you already know that it doesn't matter between a 164 and a 168. The balance is correct, and as long as you can get an 11 inch clutch to bolt to it...it will work fine. I'm surprised that yours is drilled for an 11 inch clutch, since most of the passenger car flywheels were 11-3/8 bolt circle for a 10 inch (or 10.5) clutch. Your 1969 Bronco should have come with a C5AE-6380-A cast, C7TE-A stamped, 164 tooth, 12-3/8 bolt circle flywheel, with part number C6TZ-6375-C.

So no. Not a stupid question. Just a useless bit of Ford trivia that you are now aware of.

Omg Thank you so much for the help and reply !!!!!The stamped number is C7TE-A

And to be honest I just googled the part number for the clutch that was in it … it said 11” clutch …
Thanks again!
