I am currently building my own stone crusher style steering linkage. they aren't that hard to fabricate if you know of a machinist to tap the ends of the rods for you.

Chevy TREs and DOM links..

Some areas won't allow heim ends to past safety inspections. Honolulu, Hawaii is one of those areas. You may get by with some inspectors one year but the following annual inspection you may get an inspector that goes by the book and won't let it pass.

I just got the Chevy TREs and DOM links and they are super beefy compared to the stock linkage. I haven't tried smashing them into rocks yet but it seems like they will hold up really well. Plus, you get tried and true TREs that OEM uses on 10's of thousands of trucks so they must be pretty good.

Is TRO necessary if you have DOM links? Seems that the DOM would be stronger than the axle housing, so there isn't that much to gain from clearance and it causes more problem for those with 76/77 knuckles and wheel clearance.

how much did you pay for your tre's? 140 just for the ends seems pretty pricey

I got the bolt in kit from Mike @ CompleteOffRoad, he's no longer there but I think they still offer the kit, just give them your measurements. I got a reamer bit from Chuck @ BC Broncos and went with a TRO because my 77 knuckles and clearances were better that way.

What wheels are you running Mad? My 15" wheels with required a 3/8 spacer to fit TRU, backspacing is 3.5 I think.

This is Mike's new shop. Same stuff, different location. Bought his stuff back in December, but I had the reamer and taps from a previous job on a FSB, also bought from Mike.

Cheaper to just pay a shop to do the welding of the pre-threaded ends if you use a kit like Mike's You cut the DOM to the right length..they weld on the ends he provides.

Thats what I did !!!! I used 3/8 wall x1 1/4" dom = no welds , in Canada you cant weld on your links . I think I payed around $380 for every thing thats Canadian $ And I think WH or BCs was going to be around $600 to my door (in Canada) .

just get your dom tubing tapped and not worry about welding

This is what I did--I had the machine shop order the DOM with the correct ID so all they had to do was cut to my spec'd length and run a tap through. Very cheap/ simple. I finished it off with heim joints spec'd by QA1--no regrets this route and saved a little coin in the process.

17" X 9" 4.5 backspacing. 77 stock knuckles.

I needed 1.5" spacer/adaptors to clear the TRO and the front wheels.
1.25" adaptors on the rears to match.
