Well, I guess it is an appropriate place to ask this ...
I too am looking at doing the tre conversion. On a 77 can I install the tre in the stock location (tie-rod under) and get away with a 16" rim at 3.5" back spacing?
I do like the idea of threaded DOM vs welded and need to look into this a little more.
I also have a 77 and am planning for Moab Mikes Chevy TRE set-up.
Just guess from what I have read, but that may work noreasteb and is similar to what I would like to do- 16x8 with 3.5BS. I would go TRO if possible.
Problem is, except for steel wheels, I can't find a 16" with that BS. I can find one with 4" BS and then thought of running a 1/4" spacer to get me to 3.75. It will be dang close.

I am using some old school steelies 16"x6". In looking at tro (preferable) it looks like there is more space going under than over. I will not be able to tell until I actually order the setup.
If you have a 76-77 and want to use Mikes kit would it make difference in clearance (knuckles to wheel) if you used heims over Chevy TREs?
I am almost positive that you can get heims from Mike. I am not trying to start the heim vs. Chevy TRE debate. I was just wondering if it is still necessary to alter the backspacing of the wheel if heims were used as opposed to TRE's on the tie rod and TRE's were used everywhere else.
I know that it ends up being a blended system but it would be cheaper that going all heims and if it will clear then it aids in the plug and play aspect of the system.
