it has been sticking lately, but not every time i run it. So i went ahead and changed out the ignition, figuring it was old and needed it anyways. bought a new solenoid and installed it. NO dice.

went and bought a new starter earlier this afternoon.

put it on too, same thing! cranks and keeps on turning at the starter.

what's up?? the two wires at the solenoid, i've switched them both and it has the same results

Well there's your problem.
Theoretically...

You should not get proper function when swapping the wires. Your starter would turn as soon as you turn the key if the Brown wire is moved to the "S" terminal in place of the Red w/blue wire.

Check for voltage at the Red w/blue wire with the key in "RUN" but not in "START". If there is voltage present, then something is either wrong with your new ignition switch, or there is a short somewhere in that wire to another wire that has power.

Disconnect the Brown wire entirely and see if that changes anything.
If it does, then you have something wrong with your new starter relay/solenoid.

By the way, is this a standard starter you're using? Or is it one of the later "mini-starter" types?

What harness Tony? Stock original, or updated aftermarket?

I have had the same thing happen when accidently swapping the wires on the two front posts of the solenoid. I would crank engine and the starter kept cranking once the engine fired. Swapped the wires and she worked like a charm. May not hurt to have a look at that since you did pull them off to replace the solenoid. Hope that helps.
