on my truck it was wired up to a courtesy light under the dash. so when the door is open the light would come on. At least thats how it should go...I think, I have been wrong in the past.

On the '73, which has a C4, there was a switch like this that is in fact not a switch, but a temperature sensor that controlled some aspect of the emissions system according to ambient temperatures. I can't tell from the picture, but something with that shape and with that location was located in the door post. A door jamb switch generally looks different than that. Could be wrong though.

It is an ambient air temperature sensor. It was tied into the vacuum advance. I believe it kept the distributor retarded if the air temp was too low. It has been a while since I traced mine out. It is not an on off switch.

MarsChariot and 72Sport have it right.

It is an ambient air temperature sensor. It was connected to the Emissions system. It is 99% useless! Rip her out or keep her, she does nothing for you!
