Willy's Koenig PTO in a bronco?

Good morning,

I have 70 bronco that will eventually have a ZF 5-speed behind a 351W while maintaining the original D20 T-case.

What would I need to do to get a Koenig PTO winch to work with this setup (if anything).

Is a Willy Koenig PTO adaptable to a bronco? I can tell that the PTO input on the winch needs to be moved over to the passenger side, but what else?

I have also heard that the adapter to the T-case is different between Willys and Bronco.

Please advise,
Chris

PTO connection will come out of the D 20 inspection plate.
Quite certain ptos can run off of a D 20, believe I've seen it years ago.
Google searching should reveal alot of info.

Looks to be a PTO adapter that bolts in place of the inspection cover....

How far down does that thing hang? It could make quite a catch point on the underside of your vehicle I'd think.

The Willys and the Bronco versions of the Koenig Model 100 are the same winch but setup differently. The input shaft will need to be removed and reinstalled on the other side of the gearbox. You will need to get a Ford Bronco specific PTO for the Ford Dana 20. There are a couple different versions. One is an adapter with a square pto on it and the other is one integral unit. You also need to figure out the pto driveshaft issues.

Is there a place that I can go to find these parts? Has someone taken up the Koenig PTO brand?

I am asking because I have found a Willy's model Koenig PTO for sale, but I don't know if it is worth the effort for me to piece the parts together.

I understand that the pictures are the output from the T-case. I would like to know what you call it, what is the proper term. When I call up some one to ask if they have 'one of those', what do I say?

Regards,
Chris

The parts aren't sold by another brand or location now. You have to scavenge like the rest of us dogs.;D

I pieced mine together. I started with a Willys winch too. I then bought a Chelsea PTO with adapter. I haven't looked into it but I am sure the PTO is less uncommon than the Koenig version that is all one piece. and then ran across a whole original setup. As I said before, the actual winch itself is the same for a Willys or a Bronco, they are just configured differently. The input shaft can be flipped to the other side of the gearbox depending on which side your pto shaft comes up (willys on left, bronco on right)

The piece that attaches to the transfer case is called the PTO or Power Take Off or Powertrain Operated. The Bronco specific PTO attaches to the transfer case but PTO's can also be mounted to the transmission. The ZF has two PTO ports so you can operate a winch off of that with a little ingenuity.

Like I said earlier, fabbing up the drive shafts is going to be interesting for you. The V8 shaft setup has thee u-joints I think.

Just so I am clear, the Willys and Bronco Koenig winch are the same, I just need to remove the drive from the driver side and re-install it on the passenger side?

After that, I need a PTO adapter to the transfer case (or my ZF) and then figure out the driveshaft configuration....correct?

Thanks for the help.

I have a chelsea PTO that is off of a Bronco I think. The Chelsea uses a cable to engauge/disengauge, where the Koenig uses a through the floor shifter. If you are interested in the chelsea it is one I am going to sell as I was able to find a Koenig PTO.

The input shaft and gear will need to be removed from the case and replaced where the circle plate is that is bolted to the front of the winch drive housing. That would force you to rotate the winch 180 degrees. The disengage handle will be on the driver's side and the shaft will run down the passenger side.

You are right about the PTO and drive shafts.
