I folded my windshield down tonight for the first time to discover somebody silicone the hinge shut. So that should be. A mess to clean up and repaint. My question is is there supposed to be a rubber seal or is it just metal to metal?

There should be a rubber seal in the hinge fold and if you have the older bolt on hinge, another seal between the hinge and cowl.

I believe they were welded in 74. You can tell if its spot welded or there are screws holding the hinge on. If its welded, then there is only the seal for the hinge fold.

74 had a single seal. when you buy the new one one edge has a bulb of rubber. that thicker edge goes towards the engine side. inside the hinge fold. it was origionally glued to the windshield side of the hinge not the body side.
