Wiper Question...

This should be a no-brainer but for some reason I cannot find replacement wipers for my '69!

I have only been to Checker so far, but from what I have found is that the attachment that comes with the blades to connect the blade to the Bronco wiper arm is too wide and skinny. I mean, I can put it on but it is really loose, not tight and secure as the original blades I have on now are.

Am I missing something? I did a search and nobody talks about this problem.

Comments welcome!!

Thanks guys, now I know!

It's funny all the little things that need to be converted over or fixed or what have you before I can get things the way that I want them.

Again, thanks...

Utahmike -

Something tells me that your '77 has different wiper arms then my '69.

Mine look something like this:

2400wipers.jpg

They have skinny connector points with different wiper blades. It has a little housing on it so that the skinny arm will fit snuggly.

I have yet to use mine in snow/ice/rain but from what it sounds like, they don't do very well. I am really thinking about doing the Cherokee wiper arm conversion that Jeepster posted. Then I can buy regular blades and have better arms on my EB.

I've found stock type wiper blades for both the '72 and the '68 at NAPA. 11" baldes with the metal part, about $9 each.

I run the 12" ANCO blades. Blade with metal doohickey goes for just over $5. Got them at O'Reilly. (the 12" fit on an early Jeep, and use the same mounting interface as the Bronco, I'll take an extra 1" of swipe anyday.)

those are exactly like mine. i will get the number and make for you when i get home. i bought everything but the arm from checker. i just happened to be walking by them on my way out one day i decided to try their little computer and that is the one it recommended bought then and went out and changed them in the parking lot. they work great but i do want to get some that are longer 11 inches is a little short. i like the silver color better than the black ones i had.

Awesome! Thanks, that would be great...

Hey Gummi Bear, do the flip up style come with arms that hold regular, modern blades?

Good question, I just dunno. I have the stock arms, and they happen to use the same type of mounting system as the 12" that I have been buying. They metal doohickey I refer to is what is attached to the back of the blade (on the left of your photo) they snap right into your stock arm, and last about 6 months or so. I just replace them as needed, at $5 each, they aren't exactly going to break the bank...;D

utahmike - I went to Napa yesterday and tried to find replacement blades. The guy told me that his book only went back to 1970 and he came back with the blades that were supposed to be the right ones. I didn't have my Bronco with me (I was crusing around with my roommate in his car) but they didn't look like they would work because I brought my old blade with me. I wonder if these are the same blades? It looks as though you can buy these blades practically anywhere so maybe I'll go see if the Checker I went to first sells them with this part number.

Gummi Bear - It sounds like that conversion does take the old blades but where do you get them for $5!?

O'Reily Auto Parts stores. It is 2 blocks from my house so they are who I use the most.

I believe that any parts supplier that carries ANCO will have them. They are often times kept behind the counter. Bring in one of your old blade assemblies (blade and bracket) they will have one (or can order one) that will be a direct fit. Ask for a "Stock Number 20-12". That should be a correct ANCO catalog part number. A stock wiper blade part number is 20-11.

I just went through this myself and can't help but add my 2c. Slumlord, the Arms in your picture are Anco part #41-01. If you get the Anco #20-11 or #20-12 blades, they will come with the correct clip for attaching to the Anco arm. Anyone interested in this arm should note that since the knurled nut on the wiper shafts are the same size for vacuum or electric wipers, it doesn't matter what year EB we are talking about. The arms are adjustable in two places (see attached pic). Because of this, you can very definitely run 12" blades (#20-12), AND they will park perfectly! It took me a couple of tries until I got the arms mounted on the shafts just right. I've seen so many pictures of nice EBs with their wipers drooping into the field of vision. Maybe this pic will inspire some to do it right.

Thanks SeaBiscuit68 & Gummi Bear, the wiper question is now crystal clear (no pun intended) to me.

I'll find an Anco dealer and pick some up!!

Cheers!
