Would too much trans fluid cause this?

Right before my last trip out I changed the trans fluid, filter and pan gasket in my C4 and added Lucas trans treatment fluid and thought it was correctly topped off plus it drove fine until I really steeped on it in 1st gear while doing a donut. The trans immediately stopped transferring power to the drivetrain (almost like it was cavitating) and kinda made squeeking sound so I shut it off and after restarting it was fine. This happened twice on the trip under the same circumstances and never happened while under hard accelleration in any other gear than 1st while doing some type of slide or donut. It appears to be about a quart too much. I am planning to remove the extra quart or so but do you guys think that is root cause for this problem or do I have some sort of other trans problem developing? The trans was rebuilt last in the late 80s and probably has 50K miles on it, also sat for 7 or so yrs.

Absolutely, the man who rebuilt my c-4 told me to never ever overfill it, for just the reasons you described (cavitation, overheating).
Use a suction pump and long hose to get the level right.

I tried that last night and it seems to be working great now though I only did one power slide, :)

Also, it seems to shift better too, before it seemed to shift too early.
