Had to go get some custom wires made so I can relocate the control unit for my winch.
So I am cruisib down the highway on the way home when she just dies. Lucky I was right at a exit, so coasted off the highway, and parked on the side of the road. I drained a little fuel out of the aux tank, poored it into the carb, and it started right up. Just then friend pulls up to me, and tells me his father inlaw owns a tow company.

So while we were waiting for the tow truck to arive, I pulled the fuel pump off, and found this. Holly crap it is less than a year old, then I look and read made in Korea, no wonder it failed

and yes I have the spring, so it isn't in the motor, and I think I got all the metal fragments out

That sucks!

I was going off not too long ago about stuff laying around the house that was made in China. Well, my little girl picked up on it and now she looks at all the toys and if it's made in China she will tell me about it. lol

Holley Fuel Pumps

I had the same luck with my Edelbrock pump, and just replaced it with a holley identical to the one in the photo this last weekend....

Can't complain about the "Made in Korea" too loud - my wife is Korean American and an Asian supremist....

Edelbrock

Leaking oil and gas mixture - fine mist that would collect on the surrounding surfaces (scary). It would also hesitate and stall when the engine was warm.
With the Holley - it is running great - better than it ever has (I installed the Edelbrock when I rebuilt the engine).

Get the Carter electric pump and never look back.:)

No Electric crap on mine
But I just ordered a Carter Mechanical, I will keep the edelcrap as a spare.

I have decided never to drive anywhere without a spare fuel pump in the back. after all I can swap one out in 5 minutes. I will add it to my spare parts I keep with me, hoses, belts, spark plugs, carb gaskets, fluids, etc, etc.

I had one of the Holleys like the one DonsBolt pictured in my mustang about 20 years ago...it would vapor lock all the time. Put the stock pump back on and it ran fine. I never did figure out why that thing wanted to boil gas. Another of my buddies ran the same pump in his mustang and it did just fine with almost the identical combo...I guess you never know.

Your made in Korea comment makes me really wonder how many parts on my classic cars are still US made. Over the last 40 years as parts have been swapped out, they are all probably rice burners these days

I smoked several holley and edelbrock mechanicals before I switched to electric. If I had to go back mechanical, I would def buy 2 carters for the price of one

Got the Carter pump today, it is all installed and running.
I did have to make up a new braided stainless line, about a inch longer to reach the pump outlet.

The thing that I liked the most is whats between the two red lines. Cost a few more bucks than the Holley, but you have to love Made in USA;D

HAHA , my Made in the good ol' U.S. of A. Carter High pressure fuel pump was bad right out of the box. Made my EFI conversion so much more interesting... :)

Having seen all sorts of weird failuers of the pretty, but junk, Holley mech pumps on three differnt engines of mine, I went with the high-end Carters and have never had a problem since. That chrome just does not get it done....

I should have gone with a Carter when I did the 5 liter two years ago.

My motor has allways made a little clicking noise around 1000 rpms, I allways though it was just because I had a roller motor. I had two of these Holley fuel pumps(cracked a housing when I screwed a A/N fitting into it last summer) and made the noise with both pumps. With the Carter the noise is now gone.

Even though I didn't get it from Summit, found it cheeper locally, I am running this pump
http://store.summitracing.com/partd...T-M60454&N=700+400415+308883+115&autoview=sku

Also picked up a less expensive Carter as a spare, which I am keeping in my truck at all times. Hopefully I will never need it, but it is a lot cheeper than a 100 buck tow.

I'm running that same Carter on the H&M 302 in my Donzi 16. Before, with the Holley, I had serious fuel starvation issues at anything over 6000 (redline is 8000..peak power at 7300) even though the Holley flow rating was (should have been) more than plenty. Then it puked the actuator shaft about like yours did. With the Carter..no fuel starvation..none. I'm pretty certain that the Holley junk is so poorly made that the actuator/spring assy was 'saturated' and floating at anything above 6000 RPM and not able to keep up with the cam eccentric. Never would have figured that out if it hand not puked and been replaced with a decent quality Carter pump.

My favorite (now..in hindsight) 'stupid Holley junk' story. Coming home from Tellico with my '78 F-250 tow rig - built 400 with Holley pump. It's towing my EB. Just before a rest stop the truck falters and appears to run out of gas. We tow it and trailer in to the rest stop...quickly determine we have no fuel delivery and tear in to the pump. Immediately notice that one of the two check valve assemblies is lying loose in the pump housing..tap it back in place (press fit) and stake it so it won't come loose again. Try to start..still no fuel. Tear pump apart again..testing it properly for action this time. No suction..no pressure. blowing through in different directions...huh?..the check valve we just staked in place is upside down. WTF?..it had come loose and flipped over 180-degrees in its cavity. LOL...took it out, turned it over, staked it again and we are on our merry way..after about 2 1/2 hours wasted screwing around with the Holley.

Glad to hear that the Carter I bought works well for your Donzi, I love those little boats. We used to have a 25 foot Donzi CC with twin 250's on it, that was a fun boat, and man did it fly. We now have a 22 foot Robalo CC with a single Yamaha 225 4 stroke, and just picked up a 17 foot Ranger fish and ski boat, with a 115 HP Yamaha 4 stroke for the kids to play with.

My new spare pump is a carter M6904 rated at 5.5 to 6.5 psi, so as a spare it should be fine. Also if any buddies ever need a pump, but don't run a regulator like I do it will work for them as well. Plus it was 30 bucks cheeper ;D

So you did buy the boat! Now you just need to bring it out to Chatham...

Yes Bought the boat
I don't think I am seeing that lady anymore, she is a little to neady for me. I need more freedom to play with my toys, and to race.

Anyways we have a big dock to keep it right infront, or actually behind our house in Buzzards bay.

Sometime this summer maybee we can have a little bronco get together on the cape, do some boating and BBQing
