Hi gang, I'm new here and learning the technologies of the interweb. Pardon my inexperience with both tech and ye old bronco. I'm making a push to get the ol survivor (1972 Explorer, uncut, 302, NP435 and front disc) back on the road and saw a couple stamps a few days ago on inside the engine bay on each fender lip that some of you may find interesting.

Appears to read July 24th 1972. Soon I will order a Marti Report to get more info.

Meanwhile I'll continue to try and get it driving. The engine was rebuilt many moons ago, never broken in properly, let alone tuned or driven at all since. Then the poor thing just sat around out to pasture unfortunately.

I have already learned quite a bit here, and will continue to, and share as much as possible.

thank you all so much, Lucas

Hi,

Can you please post another pic with a scale or ruler on the stamping. I don't think it says "July 24th 1972"

I see three letters, two numbers, and then 2 or 3 digits. Maybe "JUL 24 T2" ??? The normal fender stamp sequence is just month, day, and shift. So this is interesting.

Also wondering the last 5 digits of your VIN to know the production sequence. Obviously the Marti will give the exact build date...but the vin sequence will get within a month.

Thx.

Thanks for taking your time James,

I'll work on getting a photo with a ruler soon. Probably not today, the Vin is U15GLP47644.

I see you are in the Bay Area as well as myself, I'm looking to meet more EB people around here.

Later

If the sticker is still on the driver's door post, it should tell the production month and year. Found mine the other day, mine turns 50 this month!

Another bay area bronco. Great!
And since yours is a “P” model, when you get a chance find Viperwolf1 thread about “mind your p’s and q’s“ and add your information to the mix.
I’ll see if I can find a link again and post it here so you don’t have to search. I’m still getting used to the search function of this new forum software.

The 1972 P’s were the end of the model year and were made in some cases all the way up to October.

The stamp says PAINT at the top, O on the left, K on the right, JUL 24 1972 in the middle, and an inspector name on the bottom…
Normal PAINT OK stamp found on hood, fenders, grille, door jamb, dash, glovebox door, etc.

Thanks House! It's a QC inspectos ink stamp! I thought it was a raised stamping in the metal...with yellow paint on top. Now it makes sense.
