Easier to reach into the rear cargo area from the front seats?

Or perhaps the spare was relocated and the bulkhead removed for a period of time by the original owner?

It just makes using the tailgate so awkward. I worked in retail for 15 years. I stopped trying to understand why people do things, a long time ago.

Finishing up the new water hoses and heater control valve, getting ready to do a system flush -- then THIS! I'm not familiar with these 170's -- this goes into the intake, just below the carb. So it looks like I've got to now remove the carb to clean this mess because it is hard as a rock! I might as well have the carb rebuilt while I'm at it. Anyone know a good place to send this carb to? I want it looking good as well as working good!

Gosh, these old trucks are such a PITA!! lol

If that was the speedo on ebay I almost pulled the trigger myself. But, got side tracked on a few other items. The mirror? was that also on ebay?
Both look to be in dandy shape.

Yep -- the speedo was on ebay - I was surprised to see it and it seemed like a decent price for as good of shape as it is in. The mirror was from the U13 FB page.

Mirror fits like it was made for it and mi amigo Nick (NicksTrix) did some crazy voodoo magic on my hubcaps! Headed to Randy at Driven 4x4 in PHX for new exhaust and other goodies. Should have her putzin around town soon.

cap and heater core

I finally made it down to pick up my U13 Roadster. Here's what I know;

It was built in Oct. 65. Sahara Beige. Bench Seat. It's a 2 owner truck. It was purchased/used as 1 of 3 on a Ranch in W. Texas. This particular vehicle was the ranch owners personal ride. It has about 19k original miles and has spent the better part of the past 16 yrs in storage. It had a couple of whiskey dents (1 from a pissed off bull), so the PO took the body off the frame, blasted/repainted the frame, did some minor body work and repainted body. It seems 100% original to me, except the paint, chrome headlight rings and a couple of the dash knobs. I need you '66 gurus to take a look at these pics and let me know what you see. I've got a couple of questions;

a) The latch on the top of the windshield is painted body color. My suspicion is that's not how they came.
b) Is that gas cap original?
c) Are those tire/jack tools supposed to be mounted behind the drivers seat?
d) The heater core seems to have a leak. Are those the same as the later years, or special to 66?

I'm pretty excited about this thing. Plans are to slowly "restore" it, while at the same time drive it around town. Nothing that wasn't original will get done to it. Any help identifying anything special about it would be appreciated.

The stock gas cap is smooth chrome. The heater core, in parts catalog, appears to be the same for '66 as later models. Nice Bronco, Enjoy

Are those chrome visors?! Bet that deflects the sun nicely (into the constant gawkers)!

Sure about the chrome gas caps? Every original paint 66' I've seen has a painted gas cap.

Been a while since I've updated, so here goes;

New drive shafts/u-joints, new exhaust manifold and exhaust, new rear wheel seals, new coils, leafs, shocks, new clutch/throwout bearing, new fuel pump, new alternator, new master cylinder, new brake shoes, new king pins, new c and other bushings, rebuilt carb, new heater unit, new dash knobs, new front mat and installed the shiny bumpers.

Runs and drives VERY smooth. This isn't a 100 point car, but it's pretty cool and fun. The only thing I anticipate doing this summer is drive it. When the weather turns bad, I'll do a rewire (can you hear me calling, Phil?) and maybe have the steering gearbox rebuilt.
