Hello all! I didn't see an intro section, so I'm just throwing this right here. Please direct me if I missed the proper area.
Anyway, I'm a lifelong motorized vehicle addict. I have built several of them, but usually move on to the next because I like the build better than owning them. Here are a few...
The Legion Special (1923 Nash)
May Cause Dangerous (1960 Ford Starliner)
Mother Fucking Space Olympics (1972 Harley Davidson)
My Little Pony (1963 Harley Davidson)
Wastelander (2005 Aprilia Tuono)
My current offroader is a 1999 Mitsubishi Montero. Most people aren't very familiar with them, but they are pretty darn capable. There's not much available for them so most of the stuff is fabbed. I trimmed the rear rockers, built the front and rear bumpers (the front features a hidden winch), built the sliders, built the jack mount, etc. Build thread is HERE!
I dig all of that stuff, but I have wanted an early Bronco since I was a kid and as of today I finally have one. One of my friends decided to sell one of his and I was in the right place at the right time. Most of the suspensions mods I'd want to do are already done to this '66, like the Wild Horses 3.5" lift. It has a Ford 302 under the hood. It's carbureted and a little tired so I plan on swapping in a later EFI 302. All in all there are just over $7K in receipts worth of parts installed over a two-year period just before it was parked about five years ago. I feel like I got a deal at $3k.
I plan to lose the half cab in favor for a family cage and a soft top so my wife and daughter can come along. Other than that, I'll be fabricating a rear bumper to match the custom front one already installed, a 2" body lift, 35s, and maybe a pair of sliders before I start beating on it.
Well, I guess getting it running is the first task. Since it's been sitting it will likely need some tweaking at least. It was parked because the yoke at the transfer case stripped out on him on the trail. He was able to remove the rear shaft and limp home in 4-high.
Other than the minor fab work, I'll really just be doing some homegrown cosmetic improvements.
The plan is to beat it up and improve it as I go, so get ready for lots of questions from a Bronco newbie!
