Two reasons that I can think of.

1. There are quite a few that try and sell a Bronco that is clearly not worth the money. If someone is asking $40K, the dang thing better be pristine (most of them aren't).

2. EB's just aren't as popular as some of the other classics. I think that they are gaining popularity, and the prices are slowly coming up as a result. However, the bottom line is that you aren't going to get what you put into it if you decide to sell it. It just isn't going to happen at this point. I am probably going to be pushing the $25K mark on my build. I wouldn't expect to get more than $15K out of it if I sold it, though. The market just isn't there yet. EB's aren't financial investments at this point in time.

Because most of the folks here can build their own EB for the most part and scream from the mountaintops that they would never pay that kind of coin for anything. The sellers must be evil for wanting to make a profit/cover expenses. To each their own I guess. I highly doubt I will ever pay much more than 30-40K for anything on four wheels, but I'm cheap. In smaller chunks maybe I will, but not one big pricetag, thats crazy Now back to the question, figure material plus the same amount labor. Easy enough.

yes it does make you think. However I am talking about a first class build job. Most of the "40K broncos" you see for sale would not even be in the same class as what I am talking about. I dont care about what it's worth. I am interested in what people think it costs. The reason for the negative thoughts on the 40K bronco that you mention is most of us can find problem areas with the truck. For 40 K it better be real nice. Some just are not that nice. not worth the asking price. Again WORTH comes into play. I am talking about cost.

Kinda like them high-dollar stairs in over-priced homes? Do you need a loan to start your new biz venture? I'm thinking somewhere around 1-2 mil at 19.99% on a two year balloon with a three year pre-payment. And since I know ya, we won't be needing any docs from ya. You are good for it right?;D

I have to agree with the others. I've done all the labor on my rig and I'm somewhere north of $15K in parts and I'm not done yet. I can't imagine paying a shop to do some of what I've done. This is not a cheap hobby!

you get what you pay for, but you better be a good shopper .. lol

I wish I could have afford to pay someone , but missing out on the build and my bond w/ the EB now I wouldn't have wanted to miss that ..

50-60K in a year.....I rough figured mine and took all the time in labor cost into consideration

Im at 30-35k parts and a starter bronco less than a k in outside labor machine work and a x mission fix....if i had that money Id do something different but having someone else build your Bronco takes all the fun out of it!~

I just started buying paint materials... It will be around 1000.00+ just for the materials. Now add the other items you spoke of...

I'm thinking more like $80k for a first class shop and modernized truck - perhaps closer to $100k (look at bronconator). Custom choppers can come in at 100k+ - same with hot rods. I don't think there's any reason an EB would cost less if the same effort, quality and engineering went into it.

I think the rig on Overhaulin' a couple of years ago would fit the bill--all stock look, nice interior, all new, and smokin' crate motor w/efi (don't think the Overhaulin' one was efi). $60K at least and I agree that labor will equal parts cost. And I agree this is not a cheap hobby. A beater trail rig with rust and scrapes, but runs good, is more fun.
