Hello,
I need some help with the plumbing for the air pump and cats for a 1975 Bronco. I have the cats and air pump installed. Pictures would be nice if anyone has them. Thank you.

Hmm, You shouldn't need any of that stuff. Where in AZ are you?

I didn't need cats or an air pump on my '78 bronco when I had it. In fact, the ID tag even said "Non catalyst engine" I lived in Phoenix at the time, and I think that they have the strictest regs in the state.

Those guys gave me the worst time when I took it in. They told me I needed an air pump and cats. Horrible.

The info is in the computer now if you fail once. Dang I thought about it forever. I didnlt want to add an air pump. It looks terrible sitting on a brand new 351w.

I had same problem with a 73 in scottsdale, but, they never looked under the hood. Additionally, as a 73, i don't think 73's had air pumps, not that this info helps you, i'll shut up now..

The inspection guys only cared what their computer said, which was I needed to do a pretty radical de-tune. Needed to rejet way down, still ran great, no ping.

Did they look under the hood?

You didn't need them for the reason you stated. Fed (non-CA) '78 Broncos didn't come with cats. CA vehicles did, and then in '79 all Broncos came with them, except for some Canadian models if I remember.
Like you said, it says right there on your decal, "Non-Catalyst" vehicle.
Bet if it was originally a CA vehicle though, you'd have had an air pump. Maybe not, but I think I remember seeing them on the FS models. Even my '79 F350, which was still a Non-Cat truck, has an air-pump.
If his '75 EB had them from the factory (which most did if I'm not mistaken), the guys at the station were right and he's probably going to need them wherever he goes.

Sorry I can't help with the pic either robinsoncc. The '79 wouldn't look anything like yours anyway.

Good luck.

I got a letter directly from Ford which stated mine did not come with cats. DMV exempted my Bronco. Ford was great to work with and very helpful.

Hi,
I have to get 2 emission tests a year, so I know how this should work.

1974 - 1967 get tail pipe snif and gas cap visual only.

1975 and newer get visual inspection under the hood and evap. emmission testing. Well, they might try to test the evap. but I dont think they have the correct adapter to pressurize the tank and test the cap. They have tried to fit the gas cap from my 74 Bronco on the tester and it never fits, ha ha.

I wont let them open the hood on my 74 Bronco or my 73 Opel GT....even though they will sometimes want to look. It depends on who is working that day.

In Az a 1966 and older never get tested.

Keep your cool when you deal with these people.

Good luck!

Maybe I got lucky!! I just registered my 76 the other day here in Peoria, AZ. I took it to one of the little hole in the wall mom and pop DMV/inspection places(it cost a bit more but it was worth it, NO WAIT) anyways I bought my bronco in 03(one of the 7 year restorations) and just switched the title in my name 2wks before I went to this DMV. I got ins. through GRUNDY and registered the 76 bronco as a classic car(the one with the copper plate) and because I already had the ins. ready to go with grundy and it is a restored classic I was told I needed NO emissions.....I have no cats, charcoal canister or any air pump or any other emission type thing on this 76. Don't know if that helps anyone but maybe that will work to get you around the emission thing. I was told you have to have the classic car insurance for your bronco already to go before you go down there.

Good Luck

P.S. by the way the lady was even to lazy to go inspect the thing, she never got out of her seat.

Does that privilege come with any mileage restrictions?

Good question, nothing was said to me when I purchased the ins. I will be giving them a call tomorrow when they are open again and let you know. 800-338-4005 is Grundy's number

Grundy's hmm. I thought you needed an appraisal for classic title

I didn't try with Grundy's but I did try with State Farm a few years ago. I got an appraisal and then sent photos in for review. The answer came back something to the effect of "your truck doesn't look classic enough" and they denied me the classic car insurance.

Geez just can't win.

I have mixed feelings on the whole emissions deal. I could easily register my Bronco up home in Prescott at the parentals' house but since I went to EFI 13 years ago, the testing really hasn't been a big deal for me. When I was carbureted, it was. I failed once with EFI because one of my O2 sensors was bad. Went home, read the codes, replaced it, and all was good.

As for the classic car insurance, I drive my truck too much in a large variety of situations that seem to be excluded in one way or another by nearly all of the classic car insurance companies.

You do, they made me send them everything and the kitchen sink. I have farmers on all my other stuff and they were going to be a complete pain to deal with. State Farm is the same way.

Let me clarify....when I said you do on my last post, you need and appraisal with Farmers and State Farm and yes they have a milage cap. Grundy, with me.... just had me send a crap load of pics and because of the condition and the restoration they agreed with the the value I put on the Bronco. They will make you have an appraisal if they don't agree with the value you are claiming. Also with Grundy they have NO mileage cap.
