EFI gurus, is the BC Broncos throttle cable the best way to go on efi swap?

Thanks once again, Jeff

Depends on your definition of Best. Personally I think the best, is one that serves the purpose with little or no out of pocket cost. This leaves more cash for the important stuff.

Yes, cheaper is always better in my book. I don't have any problems doing a bit of rework to a part as long as it's dependable.

I would liked to have had the BC cable. But I am kinda cheap.I was gonna run the tbird cable I had but it was just too short. And it was friday night. So, I dug through the cables at Auto Zone and found that the cable off an '89 f250 was just bareally long enough.. Brand new only 30 bucks..A little pedal mod and some creative cable routing and I was in bussines;D.. If it matters I'm running a truck 351W lower, BC adapter and a car upper... Oh and no EGR spacer.. I dont think it would be long enough if I wanted the EGR.. Good luck

BC Broncos cable is nice. I have it and it was really easy to install and works great! If you can afford it BC Broncos stuff is worth every penny.

I started looking for "cheap" and found that folks selling used factory cables wanted top dollar for them. I found a deal on a Lokar cable and couldn't be happier. Lots of adjustability made it a breeze to dial in.

One thing about the BC setup is the angled shims that route the cable through the firewall to the pedal. Not that they'd be impossible to reproduce, but they're nice, clean, and look like they might be a hassle to make without the right tools/materials.

The instructions say to mount them so the cable angles "up" from the firewall, but with an Explorer upper the cable hits the plenum.
Don't know if mounting them so the cable is angled towards the driver's side would cause any mis-alignment at the pedal, but I think it would be a reasonable trade-off to gain some clearance at the plenum.

On a buddy's truck we also had to bend and re-drill the main bracket at the TB to clear the angled IAC connector with one of Ryan's earlier harnesses. Not that BC's design is wrong for everyone though. We just found some slight mods were needed for this particular install, using the Explorer upper and Mustang TB and this individual harness.

Did not work well with my modified explorer setup, had to notch it to bolt up, redrill the hole for the cable as it put it right against the IAB and the spring was worthless, used a carb style return spring off the butterfly. I'll get a lokar next time.

Do you remember what model number or length Locar cable you used?

I know BC Broncos makes some nice stuff and it's mostly all bolt on a go.;D But once you start making your wish list it really starts to ad up quick!%) With that said something are worth taken time to mod yourself and saving the money but something are worth just spending money and just bolt it on.

Thanks again for everyones input!!! There needs to be one master list of all the parts, options, do's and do not's, ref. sources and every misc. things about a EFI swap for EFI rookies like me. You guys have been great!

This is EXACTLY what I went through with my modified Explorer setup.

i run a stock mustang cable and bracket. you will need to rework your throttle pedal for length anyway. so you may as well weld a little ring on top of it and run oem parts that you can get ANYWHERE if it breaks.
