If I can swing it I am going to go look at and probably buy a 1996 351 from a bronco that is supposed to be a roller cammed engine.

Without pulling the intake is there a casting number on something to look for to make sure I am getting what I am being told?

I believe the number you are looking for is F4TE.

Thanks guys, I knew 96 was roller but just because he says its 96 doesn't mean it is. :)

I didn't know that 94 5.8s were roller engines.

Thanks for the information.

94 engines were roller but I think they still had flat tappet cams. but I believe in 96 they had roller cams installed as well. I believe its the same cam as the explorers had.
I believe that F4TE was the last production casting for 351W blocks. So a 94-96 vehicles will have the same casting.

The F4 blocks are roller blocks. But not all F4 blocks were filled with roller cams. But that is easy to fix as all the proper machine work is already in place so standard off the shelf (mustang 5.0 for example) roller parts will drop in with no work needed.

Classic example is gen 1 lightening F150s kept there unique flat tappet cam even though there blocks went roller. I have heard of other introductory year flat tappet cammed roller blocks. Figure the engine foundery mas been making these for so long. There is going to be a change. It is best to roll out the block change before the cams arrive. Because they can keep making the old flat tappet 351s in either block. But when that first case f roller cams comes in, they better have the blocks up and running down the line for them to go into or production will come to a stop real fast.
