Dang $311.00 a qt . Now we've ruined the price of the tank we were trying to save money on.
... I too thought that was a pretty weld. I have a welder friend that has said he'd make one for me. He the best welder I'VE EVER SEEN .. he welded a bead across the top of a coke can . But that weld is nice.
..............
... But as I figured up buying the aluminum and paying him . the tank would be just as bad as our vendors . There seems no way out.
......................
... Why do you guys put intank pumps and not use frame mounted pump that can be changed easier .
.............

I'll post up one more question or thought on these tanks.
.. For my 1/2 cab and it's a diesel .. I've been just wanting a 2nd tank in my Bronco rather than an big under tank. It looks to me like putting a new tank just behind the bulk head . You get the full 55'' across the bed ..4or 5'' wide at top and the bottom side can be about a 12 or 14'' then the high I don't remember but let say 22'' or so ... Someone can figure up the volume of a tank like this . But for a 1/2 cab the tank behind the bulk head and it goes straight down and you pretty much still have your half cab bed space .

Built up my own tank as well. Mig welded it together and sealed it on the inside. Used the internal baffle and pump assembly from an explorer along with the vent. I am happy with it and alot cheaper than buying one from a vendor. Built out of 16ga but would use 14 in the future.

Suprisingly there were only a few leaks when I pressure tested prior to sealing it. After that, all good.

What year explorer is the pump/sending unit out of??

I have a hand full of pump/sender assemblies here, they come from the tank pile at the junk yard so its hard to put a vehicle with them.

Mine is 16ga Stainless and no baffles, holds about 26 gal. Have not had any issues being baffleless.
I did all the layout and had a shop shear and weld.
If you build your own be sure to add a drain, sure comes in handy as we all know that when you have to pull the tank is usually right after you fill it.

Rev. Great looking tank!

Looks very similar to the PDF tank plans I posted.

That aviation sealer, I would be careful,,can it handle methanol? I would stick with east woods tank sealer, those are rated for all fuels.

We use ProSeal all the time on the helicopters at my work. As long as you let it setup and don't contaminate it, it works amazingly.

Can someone measure a stock tank near the strap and tell me how far below the frame it hangs?

I just removed mine and forgot to measure it.

Whenever I ride one I get stuck sitting next to the guy that pukes.

Seeing more and more great tanks, I'll toss in a few ideas from each. One thing I see a lot is that they hang pretty low. I don't like body lifts I won't be able to hold as much without one but oh well. As long as it holds 20+ gallons and doesn't drag against every rock I'm good.
