Fan too high for shroud to fit - Engine mounts?

Since I bought the bronco ~ 16 years ago the fan has always been too high for a shroud to fit. In fact for the longest time there wasn't even a shroud on it. I bought a used shroud a few years back and ended up cutting the top off of it. Something still doesn't seem right. The mounts don't look any different, not Extreme mounts for sure.

Almost like the front of the motor is sitting too high? Being pushed up but the trans being too low or something?

I do have a flex fan, I suppose it could be too large.

Anyone else have any tips? It's not rocket science but this one has always had me baffled.

The front of the engine sitting too high, rear of engine (tranny/t-case) sitting too low. Radiator mounted too low.

The stock fan (what I run) is 18" in diameter.

Some pictures would help, for sure!

Just out of curiosity, how much clearance do you have between the blade and your shroud? (Sorry for the Hijack.)

it is possible that the fan shroud you bought is for a 2" body lift Bronco?

when I put a body lift on mine I had to buy a fan shroud that would accommodate the fan that was now lower than the stock location.

Maybe engine mounts are too high? Maybe they wanted the tcase lower and dropped the crossmember? Shows some pics of crossmember, engine, and radiator mounts.

The fan's a little off-center. Maybe 1/4" at the bottom and 1 1/2-2" at the top? Just guessing now since I'm at work...

I'll take some pics tonight.

Feel a bit sorry for it. I can drop a grand on the motorcycles in a blink of an eye. Hard to justify it on the Bronco when it's hiding in storage and not begging for attention. May have a UPS man stop by with some exhaust and other goodies this week. Just haven't clicked the order button yet :)

You do know that there are 2 different water pump heights? That is the position of the water pump has 2 different heights from the crank pulley. Most of the times early Bronco, late mustang and Explorer all have the same height. But some of the 70's and early 80's are spaced about ¾" higher. any idea what accessory drive you are running? 3 or 4 bolt crank pulley? Driver or passenger side lower hose. I think it is a 70's driver's side water pump that is the taller one. Before I moved and had mountains of old parts I had both of them side by side.

Very good to know! I'll check that out tonight also.

Dropped the trans pan last night to change the gasket. Tired of it bleeding everywhere. Of course none of the 4 parts stores I called had a C4 gasket and filter in stock.. WTF? Found one at a parts store I never go to today. Had a few of them. less than 10 seconds to find it and the guys look/acted like the parts store guys should. Knew WTF they were doing and were actual car guys. I swear if it's not an import add-on part, the parts stores don't stock sh!t anymore. I don't think the kid at Autozone knew what a trans filter was. The Guy at Napa was arguing with me about the model of the trans. Saying it should be a C3. %)

Check the distance between the harmonic and cross member, should be about 3/4". Was this originally a V-8? If not the towers may be too close together which would raise the engine.

Great question Jim. I found out a couple years after buying it, that it's actually a 75 frame with a 77 body. Dual Filler doors. Registered as a 75.

Sooo... Anything is possible.

Measuring from the back of the harmonic balance to the crossmember should be 3/4". Anyone know what the v6 measurement is?

Sounds like a great excuse to add a body lift

Most fight the other battle in that the fan is too low after we jacked up the body - I have made brackets to relocate shrouds on several trucks to deal with a body lift kit....

Here's some pics. Hopefully this sheds some more light? I'll take some pics of the trans if these don't help.

Just watched the Counting Cars episode and that bad ass beast has a much more level engine than mine..

Here's the transfercase mount.

I was going to say it looked like maybe a crushed transfer mount from the engine bay pic but that looks good, I'd start thinking the engine mounts are putting it to high? That motor sure seems to be pointing up. Does your intake hit the hood?

The hood bubble has a pretty good sized hole underneath so nothing hits. The DUI distributor is pretty big. I do recall ~8-10 years ago having to modify the crossmember a touch to make it fit.

Hopefully it's just the motor mounts.. It's the only thing that makes sense to me.

Transfer case crossmember mounts on the frame are on upside down. Undo the 4 bolts on the frame, flip over, put back together. Transfer case is too low and that is rocking the engine causing the fan to be too high.
