Tie rod replacement

I'm in the middle of replacing the tie rod and drag link on my 69. I have torqued the ends that attach to the knuckle to 65 ft lbs. now, the nut sits really low and the cotter pin could easily let the nut back off a full turn or so. You can see what I mean in the picture. I have the Chevy front disc conversion, I was thinking that piece might not be as thick as the stock drum knuckle was. In either case, is it ok to put a washer or two under the nut as a spacer?

One other quick question, the dust seal between the drag link and tierod, does the metal cup go against the tie rod as in my picture or do I need to flip it? The old one didn't have a metal cup. Thanks!

Why can't you just drill a new hole where you need it?

Not trying to be a smart @$$.

Yes use a washer or two. Common practice in aviation to get cotter pin holes to align at the specified torque.

I didn't think there would be anything wrong with doing it, but figured I'd ask. It is my steering after all don't want that falling apart or binding up on me! :p

Thanks guys
