Ok, so I went today to get the '74 out for the summer. Hasn't really been touched since October of last year.

Thing wouldn't hardly run and that's being generous. It was running super pig rich and wouldn't stay running.

I'm blaming the ethanol and my lack of forethought to remember to either put sole stabilizer or run some real gas in the last tank.

Anyway, I pulled the carb. Gonna get it rebuilt.

Can someone tell what I'm pointing at here. It's the breather looking thing on the back of the carb spacer.

Also, is this normal? Looks burnt?

That's your egr valve and if it is sticking could be part of your pig rich running problem. When I fire Elmer up for the first time in the spring he runs really well and I figure it's cause the ethanol has evaporated and he's getting to drink nothing but the good stuff. I usually give him a good dose of lead substitute and some sea foam though. You may have had a stuck float/needle&seat. May be spending a lot on a rebuild for simple problem. Depending on which type of float you have it could be saturated and sinking or have a hole in it and filling up and sinking. Some are solid and some are hollow soldered brass.

Rebuild is supposed to be "cheap." We will see how much "cheap" is..

I'll replace the EGR after the carb gets back.

The carb really needed a good adjusting anyway, it's been... eh.. since I got the Bronco, I just dealt with it.

Yes, that's mud up there. ;)

My nephew who lives in Alabama and who works in the restoration business told me there are no emission inspections. I disconnected the EGR on my '77 long before the warranty expired. Since that's a '77 I know that simply leaving the vacuum hose off the EGR valve allows the spring in the valve to keep it closed. The vacuum nipple on that EGR valve hasn't had a hose on it for a long time. So in effect, you don't have a functioning EGR now. The result of this is at most better fuel economy. If you want to get away from all the EGR parts the intake needs to be replaced with a pre '73 intake and carb spacer. The '77 EGR/carb spacer has a PVC connection in the front and pre '73 carb spacers have the PVC in the back. So you would have to do some changes to the PVC plumbing.
