Where's a good supplier of safety wire bolts...

So after a local friend's ring gear bolts backed out last week, I had D44 ring gear bolts back out quite a while back and after my disaster last week with ring gear bolts I'm looking for pre-drilled bolts so I can wire them together.

Needed- 10 pre-drilled ring gear bolts for a 9" (1 1/4" long) so I can safety wire them together

I know there's a place on Pirate that's selling a flat pc of metal with tabs that bend up to do something similar...

I tried McMaster...

Those are Izzy bridge locks, there is another design on Pirate that will work on ARB and others that are not flat on back.

The Izzy locks are the bomb and better than wire but are not as readily available. ECGS supply will have the drilled bolts available, they are an ARP product. I always safety wire or izzy lock every 9" front that I build, fronts are worse than the rears for coming loose for some reason. In the rear I've not had an issue with them working loose with quality bolts (new every time) a good degreasing of the bolts and the bolt holes and red lock tite, in all but the most abusive applications. and those are usually require 35 spline pinions because the 28 spline are breaking.

With a little patience you can drill those holes. Are you using .32 or .40 wire and do you have a pair of safety wire pliers? Those are really the bomb!

You guys do more hard core stuff than me but in my experience I lost some ring gear bolts once. It was caught early so no real harm done other than to my ego. I use RED loctite now on every ring gear bolt and I have never had another one back out. Plus you can get it anywhere. Those bolts are under a lot of shear force I did not like the idea of drilling them. Plus the bolts are harder than the hinges of hell.

I used to use blue locktite decades ago but for the past 10 yrs I use red on any driveline bolt/nut and inside the diff... still work loose from heat cycles...

I'll attach a pic of my latest carnage...

I tend to be a bit tough on stuff in 2WD...

ARB grenaded...

Isn't this supposed to be one piece? ; ) I tend to find the weak link in a lot of parts... RD99 35 spline ARB.

That's commendable!! Wow!

Best to use new bolts and thoroughly clean the gears (new or used), apply Loctite and properly torque.

When installed correctly, there should be no need for these specialized bolts in mostly street or mildly built off-roaders. If you were running a drag car or high powered hill killer, I could understand. In over 25 years of working with all kinds of cars, trucks and crawlers, I have never had one R&P bolt come loose and I do all my own gears.

I've never bought a pre drilled bolt, but I bought a jig to drill all the bolts from speedway motors a few years back.
The flat tab and bent metal thing works way better, they are factory toyota parts, but they won't fit ARB's in a 9 inch.

Looks good Timmy390!! : )

MtnRam- new bolts, new ring gear, cleaned and dried thoroughly... this happened with a 6,000 rpm shift into 2nd gear on pavement with 37"s and a very healthy 418...

Google aircraft spruce and fasteners

They should have what you need.

Good luck.

You could also have a local water jet shop cut some holes for you. We used to use the water jet to put holes in a lot of our race car hardware. Its way faster than drilling. Just make a jig plate with a nut welded on it and bam you could be done in 20 minutes.

That explains a little more... You cant prepare for everything. Maybe its time to bump up to a bigger axle... ;D

Good ideas all around but my issue now is finding something tougher/stronger that is high pinion... not many option(s)... I need to delete the "s"...

Hi-pinion 60 is always going to run on the coast side ...not as strong-headed in the wrong direction there...

14 bolt...well, I'm trying to reduce weight and same issue- no hi-pinion available

I run a 4R70W/KluneV/Atlas 4.3 I could strap the axle to limit droop but that's not much fun for show and tell days, plus I'm going 4 link since I'm snapping 1 1/2" DOM in my anti-wrap, shearing 5/8" bolts in the anti-wrap and breaking leaf springs every 2 years...gotta fix this soon...

Stretching the wheelbase a few inches (frame crossmember and gas tank) frame rail can be modified easily, gas tank I just did last fall with my in-tank pump conversion with 4 individual Walbro pickups so the pump never runs dry... I have the original 24gal NWMP tank that is notched so the front of the tank actually goes under the crossmember (gives more clearance than newer 24 gal tanks) and clears the diff in the STOCK position by less than an inch. Move the rear back 3 inches and you've lost a lot of fuel capacity...

Oh well, my problem and I'll figure out a way to make it work...maybe just don't shift at 6K....nah... lol

Any other ideas that are less than 5K??? thanks...
