going north finally on my project. see pics. i need help on the passenger's side with heater hoses/pipes and with ports used on the intake. i will take some pics of the passenger's side this morning and post them also. See the pic of the other engine i have for my below oil filler tube question. Also if some has pics of this stuff installed it would help tremendously. I have looked at the diagram on the intake that was posted on this site. So what ports do i need, pcv and what else? the original valve covers have a hose off the oil filler tube, what is that for? sorry it has been a year or so since i disassembled the engine and my pics i took were not detailed enough.

more pics and questions. is the grey connector on the heater pipes the water temp sensor or is the temp sensor the gray one on the front of the intake? I will lay the harness out tonight and get some of this sorted out. where do the two small hoses go off of these pipes?

thanks surfer, still moving north with your help. I think laying the harness out tonight (efi guy harness) will help also.

Here are a few pics of the mods I did. I do not have a body lift so if you are planning on installing one you may not need to do some of these. The frame notch will not need to be this much, however when I did this I wasnt sure how much was needed, and didn't want to pull the motor out again, with that said, an 1/8" will be plenty to clear the lower pulley unless the motor mounts are really bad. The pic of the oil filler tube, I cut and removed the section between the arrows. The coil mount has been lowered so that is just is above the heater tube, its a little difficult to see in the pic but if you look close you can see it. As for the throttle body unless you plan on using the egr you can just install it directly the intake pleneum and not worry with cutting and rewelding the 90* adapter. The last 3 pics are part of the vacum/PCV hose, the 2 I am pointing at need to be shortened, I don't recall how much, just make sure they are not sticking out past the back of the block, if not they will hit the firewall. if you have any Q's ask away

The port off the the oil filler tube is the air return for what the PCV is pulling out. It was originally attached to the air inlet hose between the TB and the air filter box.

The two hoses from the cooling tubes are a de-icing/preheat to the upper intake. Probably not needed in a place like AZ, but needed where there is snow. If you remove them from the manifold, just loop a hose between the two ports to make sure water is moving in the cooling tubes, past the ecu temp sensor.

You haven't said if you are keeping the EGR... But at minimum you will need a vacuum source for: the fuel regulator, PCV, and if you have vacuum assist brakes. The factory PCV hose plugs into a few ports on the intake... Some sort of factory designed equalizing feature, I think I remember reading. I believe in keeping things close to stock, but many here have removed the extra ports without issue, and run a single hose to the pcv valve.

i found this step extremely helpful. the sensors made sense (see what i did there :-0 ), it helped to be sure i had clearance (351w) for body connector etc

EGR is deleted and the elbow with it. where it states remove in the diagram, do you mean plug or remove and plug the hole. fuel regulator is going to be on the frame but I will need vacuum for that. no vacuum assist brakes. Snow is not a problem, so a loop will work but for reference where do the they connect? so the pic I have of the tubes are cooling tubes? Also does the heater control valve fit on the threaded bung in tha attached pic

In your picture... The cooling tubes...
Loop those two 1/4 heater hoses.
The 3/8 threaded bung is for the ECU temp sender.
Those metal vacuum tubes on the upper intake can be twisted out, tapped, and then a threaded plug installed with sealer.

Need manifold vacuum here, circled in Red

Heater control valve is here:

904 i am tracking on all but the fuel pressure regulator, because i am going to run returnless, i will use a frame mount adjustable. so i will just cap the the original like you did, I am assuming that is the pressure regulator on the fuel rails? i believe i could build a space rocket with the help of this forum, well probably not, but you guys sure offer great support. thanks again.

I have the same motor as you 2000 return less system from an Explorer.
I had Areo fuel tanks fit a factory Explorer fuel pump assembly into their tank, so I avoided having what you are doing... mounting a separate regulator near the tank to regulate the pressure to the injectors.

I was told that the item in question on the fuel rail is a fuel rail pulse dampener.
It dampens the fuel pulses (drops and spikes in pressure) in the fuel rails created by the injectors pulsing. It needs to have manifold vacuum to it.
(Mine has a cap on in the picture to keep dirt out of it as I assembled the engine compartment...)

More than you wanted to know I am sure, but when you are done you will be an expert!

904 no this is exactly what I want to be knowledgeable of the system. Can you shoot me a pm with what the price was on the aero tank. I like that idea of a in tank return.

So the short story... on the tank is I did a Mass buy purchase for NorCal Broncos. We bought 10 tanks which got us a discount on the base price.

After talking with Garry aka... EFI Guy, I decided to investigate the in tank option. I had to ship the tank back to Areo, UPS and I supplied a new Explorer fuel pump assembly. (Hard to ship the used one I had that smelled of gasoline)

"Jake" investigated and said no issue. But rather than modify my tank, he already had a buyer for it. Areo made a brand new tank... you lose a 1/2 > 1 gallon of fuel storage.

So with all this back and forth stuff I cannot honesty give you a definitive price. Best to call Jake at Areo Tanks down in SoCal and ask him directly.
I believe they are closed Fridays...

Here is a picture:

There is a way to use the Explorer fuel level sender, you have to replace the gas gauge in your cluster... Different ohm reading than Bronco. There is a thread about it you can search for. Makes it a little cleaner.

looks like the tank mounts the same as the one the vendors sell. where did you source the pump and assembly? so you just used the fuel sending mounted to the right of the intank pump? i will search on the thread about the explorer sending unit. i threw away a pump assembly, or at least i cant find the one i took out of the donor vehicle.

I bought a replacement pump assembly from O'Reillys

You need the plug off the donor vehicle to make it a clean set up and easy to replace.

Areo supplies the sending unit with the tank. (to the right of the picture)

I modified explorer fuel pump and the bronco sending unit to work in my returnless setup. All that's left is to attach the fuel line and install in tank and finish the rest of the swap. Also have a connector to install for the fuel pump power.

904 talked to jake, easy to work with and the price was very good. Will be ordering soon.

Just called and ordered mine. I'm confident with modifications I made to the fuel pump but not real excited with the crappy peeling interior of my current Sherman tank I have.

Thanks
