I got this 1970 bronco sport from a member here about a year ago. Truck is a solid west coast truck has one rust spot on the drivers side floor board that's it!!. The paint is original and in fair condition but I like the patina. My plan at first was to make the truck more stock and maybe go back to uncut one day. It ran great when I got it so I just cleaned some things up, slapped on a set of 31" tire I had from a Lubr, and drove it last summer.

These are some pics of when I got it

So after I drove it I found a bunch of things I didn't like. I needed to add power steering, I had to get rid of the giant steel channel bumper, and there were some electrical gremlins.

I got a used bumper, and most of the powersteering stuff from Delconick. picked up a new pump from WH and some other little things.

Attached are a few pics of it after a good cleaning, a new rear bumper and the 31s.

I took it to a car show in the fall and it was really well received. I enjoyed driving the truck with the stock suspension. But the powersteering box developed a major leak so I parked the truck. I spent what spare time I had putting new suspension on my 67 along with a bunch of other upgrades.

Fast forward to this spring, I fixed the leak and changed the direction a little. I didn't want to repaint the truck, I like the vintage look of the paint I wanted a little bigger tire but didn't want to lift it. I also noticed the truck was the same gold bronze color as Big Oly. So that was my inspiration, it is no means a desert runner but I think you can see were I am going. So I went with 33x 10.50x 15 tires on 15x 8" slots. White letters out, I had a old push bar off a old project cleaned and painted it and slapped it on the front. Cleaned more stuff, tweeked the floor shifter cover, Put POR-15 on the front floors to prevent the rust from spreading.

That's were I am now. The bronco rides great, looks great and runs great.
I still have thigs to do. I desperately needs new exhaust and the clutch is on its way out. So I will work on those things as money allows!

Your ride looks great - I also think it makes sense to drive the snot out of it - do stuff like you are and still be able to drive it. Then take a period of time during off season to do big stuff that means you can't drive in the meantime

Keep enjoying it! Not many original panel cars anywhere with that little rust. Product of Sacramento area. I still have an eagle feather on my toolbox that I found inside the glovebox when I bought it and the blue Cali tags it came with. Did you tweak the gas gauge?I think I remember you telling me u adjusted it..

Pete I have not messed with the gas gauge. I just fill it up when I get to 1/4 tank. Seems like just about every bronco I ever had you better fill at 1/4 tank. I am enjoying it for little trips but I am hoping to do some longer cruises with it this summer. But need to replace the exhaust and clutch first. Clutch chatters bad from a stop.

I think it just needs a Cactus Smasher, some Cibié lights and an Olympia Beer decal on the door!;)

Looks great. What lift are you running? Looks like a little trimming of the front fenders. Any other issues with the 33s?

Thanks for all the kind words. I would love a real cactus smasher and some Cibies but its not in the budget. That's why I used the old bush bar I had. But I do like your Idea DirtDonk!

No lift on the bronco. Cut rears and the front fenders were trimmed at some point in the broncos life. The 33s don't rub at all but not much clearance in the front when you turn. If I was taking it off road I would want a little lift in the front. But the truck likes the 33s the little taller tire helps on the hwy with 410 gears and a 3 speed. This is really just a cruiser go to shows truck. I got my 67 if I want to get dirty.

One of my favorite parts of my old truck is the patina. The paint is worn thru where your arm rests on the door. Being a California truck, this makes sense as it was a good weather vehicle. I always thought about the other users of this vehicle when I put my elbow there.

So I finally am giving this truck some attention again. Once fishing started this year I got a new boat and all funds and spare time went to the boat. When I did drive a bronco it was my 67 as the exhaust on this truck just about fell apart so It sat in my shop all summer.
So I just got a custom new exhaust on it. 2 1/4" pipes true duals with knock off Flowmasters. She is LOUD!!! But sounds awesome. Local guy charged me $450 from the headers back. She sounds fast no mater what gear you are in. It kind of full filed my desire for a mustang putting a racey sounding exhaust on this truck. "the mustang is no longer in the budget due to unforeseen expenses"

Just ordered up a new OEM style front rubber floor mat and a few other odds and ends. Got a few little projects to do on it. I was going to do the clutch this winter but I am going to put that off until next year. I will post up some pics of the exhaust and other little projects in the near future. Just going to enjoy driving it when the weather permits. I also want to get some stuff straight on my 67 so I will swap the 70 to home and bring the 67 to work so I can tinker with it over the winter.
