Thought crossed my mind last night.....

Anyone running twin sticks (J shift) with a factory bench seat? I'm about to drop the hammer on past for my 5 speed swap and don't think I have ever heard of any issues with the twins and a bench but don't recall anyone saying they run that combo either.

I've not seen that either, I can't imagine there being a clearance issue though.

Not a J stick but there's a ton of room there.

if you get the twins that have straight shifters on them then you will probably not have an issue. but if you use Duffs twin stick the shifters are bent towards the rear and they come back to just touching the inside front edge of my driver seat. that is the front stick does. you can measure. the m5od with adapter is 9" longer. so you can measure back 9" and see for yourself.

Found a pic for ya

Worried about the M5ODR2 length and where it puts the twins.

I guess I could bend the shifters if need be.......Not giving up my bench. Love it....

Plan to go with JB Fab twins. This site has a listing for ZF/M5OD J shift twins. Not sure of the difference but it states "works with AA clocking rig"

Just did.....It's TIGHT. I mean I got allot going on in that area with the floor shifter and all but best I can tell with the bench slid all the way back....it will fit but depending on shifter travel, HIGH range might be an issue.....

My guess is the sticks will need to be bent.....

Looking at this pic it appears things will be OK. Shifter is not a full 9 inches back

That pic is f-n and r-h. So it will be tight even with straight shifters. I am either going to modify the mounting of the twins base or cut and weld the shifters. Havent decided yet

ThAt pic is exactly where mine are mounted. It was right at 9” back. You should be good even if you need to bend them forward a bit. Mine have been like that for 6 years. And i keep sayin im gonna change it but i realize that im gonna have to gut the interior again. So i talk myself out of it. Lol

That seems like more worms in the can....LOL

So bottom like is, I think the JB's (J shift) will fit but might need some bending. Good thing I have a shop press :)

I did notice on the JB site, the T and J shift "N" position is different. The T shiters are pointed back at an angle when in "N" but the J shift is straight up.

I bent my JBFab twin stick to fit original hole. First pic is where they came through the floor and the second pic shows where the M5 shifter is compared to the twin sticks on finished floor.

Didn't realize the 5 speed was that much longer

Yup it's long.....29.5 inches as I recall....

2 different shifter locations.....later ones (like the one I have) has the shifter about 2 inches further back (might be closer to 3). It appears from the location Bronkenn has the later version.

If I recall correctly there are 3 different shifter locations on the M5. I replaced the shifter cover on mine with a 99 two wheel drive shifter cover to move it back. Barely hits the channel under the floor.
