Nope, not original to a Bronco. It does looks kind of factory though, but whether it's out of a Ford, a GM or other vehicle I don't know.
Maybe an old Ford?

As far as I know the ONLY actual "dome light" that was ever factory installed in an Early Bronco was the one in the '69 and later windshield wiper motor cover. The other factory light was the "map light" that was under the dash.

Lots of people have found hooded lights near the top of the dash sticking out, but those were usually owner/dealer installed after the fact too.
Nothing on the hard top that I remember every hearing of.

right on good to know! it sure seems like it was a factory light due to the age of it and how nicely it fit.

cheers

It could very well have been a dealer installed light at the time of the original purchase. In which case it could have been a proper factory light for some other application that the dealer could get at the time.
What year is the Bronco? If a factory style, the light looks to me to be of fifties, or early sixties vintage.

It's a 67 year model bronco. I would have kept it if I didn't bust up the glass. Was a cool old vintage light. Ever drop a coke bottle back in the &0's on the ground? That's what it sounded like Lol- some thick glass...

Well I've moved on and welded in a patch I place of the light.

Was there an option for a dome light in 66? I have/had a light that had a broken lens so I removed it only to find a wiring hole in the roof brace to which it was mounted. The wiring has nice factory style male and female ends and certainly looks real... but is it?

Papy the hole in my roof brace looks identical to yours...

Can't find any EB dome light other than the wiper motor cover mounted ones in '69-'77s. If there were a dome light in '66-'67s it would be like those in '66 cars and trucks. My '66 full size Ford had a plastic lens on a chrome plated pot metal light fixture. Remember, the full coverage EB hub caps were '66 Galaxy, most often seen on '66 7 Liters. I bet the '66 Mustangs had the same dome lights and they're still available at Mustang parts suppliers. The styling of papy's light looks more appropriate for a '30s car. I'm using a '75-'78 common car/truck dome light in my '77. My '76 Montego had one and the one in the '77 came from a '76 F250. There's no cover for FJ40 wiper motors.

It looks a little like the huge dome lights in '90s Crown Vic police cars. These were bigger and unbelievably bright for an automotive interior light. I guess the cops need that to do paper work. CT's fixture is about 1/2 the size, but both are round and have a switch on the side.

That's it. You can find them easily in the junk yards. Just check the Crown Vic police cars. They use a very powerful and hot bulb, about equal to a 150W incandescent bulb. They often melt the plastic lens. They're about 6-7" diameter.

There was a map light listed for the dash but no dome light in the 66 literature.

Instead of trying to put 1 light bright enough to light the whole truck, I put several in Frank's '75, each with a pair of aimed lights (for each occupant) and a dome bulb (on the door switches).

There was also a cargo area lamp at the t/g with its own switch from door-triggered to always-on:

They use smaller, cooler bulbs, but lit the truck better than 1 bright fixture would have. And if he still had the truck, we'd probably swap them all to LED.

I'm not sure, I'm going to have to go to the shop and look and see if mine has that hole. I don't recall seeing one there but may not have noticed it either lol.
