This is pretty rare. A 1976 Ginger Ranger that was in an accident and been off the road for 30 years in AZ. So yes minimal rust. The cool part is that the engine is untouched and still has all of the smog equipment untouched. First one complete that I have owned. Time to bring it back to it's former glory, smog and all!

That's awesome!

Over in the Boss 302 world I was in on a conversation once at a big national event and I remember one guy saying they removed 55 gallon drums full of exhaust manifolds, smog pumps, rev limiters, etc back in the day at some dealership where he worked. At that same event people where now paying big bucks for those items trying to restore their cars back to original appearance!

That is solid restoration gold. The information about the EXACT emissions layout for a 76 is so difficult to find. Please document everything in the engine bay with plenty of picture before and after you restore it.. I already see where things are arranged differently from my 76. Yours is likely more correct. I would really like to know the true story on some of those components. The sit=r pump bearings are probably in need of replacement. They usually are. But maybe you will get lucky. And there is more in this picture. That oil filler cap with the PCV, it is exactly like the one on mine which I thought was an aftermarket of some sort. I discovered that there is a reason for that cap being a bit taller. This confirms that it was original. So much to see here.

I had a 77 like that a few years back. Under the hood it had original Ford plug wires, smog pump, all the vacuum hoses and plumbing. I was told by other here is was a rare find. Unfortunately the body was a rusty mess and I lost interest and sold it. Have no idea what happened to it. See the pic.

If you want any close ups or other pics I would be glad to. It had a tree growing in it and was filled with 30 years of leaves and debris.

Interesting that both the 76 and the 77 had manual brakes. In the last picture you can see the spacer between the master cylinder and the firewall on the 77.

I thought it was really strange that a 76vRanger would have manual brakes and manual steering so I got a Marti Report. It shows power brakes on the report so this must have changed along the way but it does not show power steering on it.

Sure doesn't make sense to go from power to no power.

Let's see overall pics of it and hear the story of where you found it!

And before I forget. Please record the routing, location, and termination of vacuum lines associated with the emissions equipment. This stuff is being lost to history and a few pictures now would solve a lot of problems in the future as people try to recreate the systems. I know a lot of people don't care and think "good. riddance", but to some it matters and the factory manuals on the details are found wanting.

It did if it was $150 option. Anything to save a buck sometimes.
And running 28 inch tall tires that were skinny as pizza cutters, didn’t exactly make a stock Bronco hard to steer.
Most of us with pre-73 Broncos ran around for years with manual steering. We wanted power, but not really all that bad when it came right down to it. Of course, we didn’t really know what we were missing either!

I just meant the brakes.

Will do, I am in San Diego for a bit but will get back to it later this month. It was in a rollover in 1995 and parked after. It still has the red plates with the 1995 sticker. Found in Yuma by a local and offered up for sale as is. The roof and windshiled was crushed along with the door window frames bent but the tub and frame were straight and the body gaps still good. The floors probably have corrosion due to all of the debris inside but I will find out when I clean it all out.Rockers, quarters, inner front fenders are all rust free and uncut. I wanted to restore a Ginger Ranger and this one had 84k miles on it which I can only assume is correct by signs of the drivetrain. I said my last build would be my last and then this comes along.

I’ve got some pictures of my 302 before we took it out. All original smog stuff, it’s a 77. I was just taking engine shots, not the smog stuff per se, but you can see most of the routing and vacuum hose hold on. Let me know if you want to see them and I will post.

If you’ve got them handy, I think a lot of people would at least be interested in seeing them. But then they would be up here for future reference.

I’ve got a ‘76 with smog equipment. Here’s a few pics. If there’s anything you need a different angle or view, let me know

There's that filler cap again. Nice to know. Funny, I don't think I have seen any two '76s with emissions hoses running exactly the same route. Bears some thought. Any pictures of the passenger side hook-ups? I am thinking of the ones on the top of the thermostat boss.

Will try to take a few later this evening.

Three scenarios that I can think of.
1. Broncos sold in CA
2. Broncos sold as FED spec trucks.
3. PO changes and emissions omissions.
