Calling all fuel cap experts, I know you're out there.

The way we have always sold these is by year
66-70 short reach (left side pic) small tabs
71-76 long reach (right side pic) small tabs
77

Is there any evidence of a short reach 1 small 1 large tab version? If anyone has this type of filler neck/cap can you snap a pick and let me see it? Please include year of Bronco. I'm primarily focused on 1970-1971. Bronco parts vendors seem to have a difference of opinion about this so we might move away from selling by year model. Also I'm trying to find out if this 1 small 1 large tab short reach version is some freak thing or common enough to add another part number. Any help would be great.

Not sure if this will help but I ordered the billet Scott drake fuel cap for my 71 and it barely fit. It had to be in just the right location to get a good seal. I then ordered the other shorter version thinking that i might have the wrong one but that one wouldnt fit at all.

Sorry dont have any pics and have since sold the truck.

I had to get one of each for my '69. The stock filler neck for the front tank did not have a vent line from the factory so I swapped it out for a later model filler neck w/ vent that takes the long reach. Rear is stock '69 w/ the short reach.

Just had the same thing happen. I bought a long reach drake and it's too loose. Fits but not well.
I bought a short reach drake and it has a small tab and wide tab and won't fit. Kinda pissed about it actually. No one has pictures of the tabs and just mentions the reach so how the hell do I get a small tab'd short reach drake? I was thinking of cutting the fuel neck but hadn't decided. This may not help with evidence of this coming from the factory but Drake makes a small tab/wide tab short reach.

Off note, is there another part number for a Drake short reach with small tabs?

This is the one I think is a freak but the jury is still in deliberations. I've been told some people have that one (small tab large tab) I have yet to see for myself the Bronco filler neck that fits that cap. Anyone have a neck that would fit it? Thanks a bunch I'm pulling a bunch of caps 66-70 out of stock until I get this resolved.

Do your Billet Fuel Caps with the 2 small tabs have the same Scott Drake P/N as the one pictured or different? If different could you let us know what it is?

Original '71.5 filler neck for main tank. Stant locking cap (approx. '85 vintage).
Same size latches both sides.

If I remember, the aux tank cap was harder to insert each time, but the same part number did work.

Ours are the same as you show in your pic. They were not like that when these first showed up 1-2 years ago. I'm working with Drake to get this right. As of right now we don't expect small tab short reach billet caps for 60 days or so. That's all the updates for now.

I would still like to see if anyone has the filler neck with the small/large tab. Anyone?

Still checking on the filler necks.

Thanks for the help.

I don't have a 70-71 but I would have assumed that the small tab/large tab combo is so that the "Fuel" script on the cap orients correctly when closed. It would be an easy fix with the filler neck off of the vehicle but I would be pissed about it if it was not disclosed when I bought the cap. Also would not want to make the modification on the vehicle for fear of making a spark and or getting metal shavings in the tank.
