I'm not sure but from the info I found it will have the infamous 2G alternator. It might work, as I think they have the same mounting configuration as the 1G, and if memory serves me correctly the late EB had them stock.

But considering the 3G is a better alternative and still cheap and available I think most would use it instead. However if it's one of those situations where you are getting it free or something I can see why you would want to use it, and I think it can be done but will take someone more informed than me to confirm.

Does it look like this?

For those that may have them on their other Ford trucks, but aren't ready to upgrade to a 3G just yet, here's the updated plug that you should be able to get at any auto parts store. They also come with many replacement 2G rebuilds.

This is supposed to keep the smoke from puffing up out of the engine compartment.
But like said, if you're changing out the alternator anyway, why not just spend a little extra and get a 3G instead.

Another negative in the 2G's column, is that it's not as powerful as a 3G either.
Probably in the 60 to 80 range, which isn't much of an upgrade in power output if you're going to go to the trouble of re-wiring it.
Especially to go to the trouble with a less-than-desirable product.

The 3G is either 90 or 130, and easier to wire up in a Bronco I'd say.

so if one wanted to walk up to the counter at autozone and purchase a new alternator, what vehicle and year would they say they needed one for. ? if they wanted a 3g that would use the existing brackets on a bronco..

This is the going list far as I know (I copied off someone else), hopefully some can add to or correct any discrepancies:

(1994-97) Ford Thunderbird, Mercury Cougar 3.8L
(1990-95) Ford Taurus, Mercury Sable 3.8L
(1993-99) Ford Taurus, Mercury Sable 3.0L
(1995-98) Ford Windstar 3.8L & 3.0L
(1991-94) Lincoln Continental 3.8L
(1992-97) Ford F Series Pickup
(1992-96) Ford E Series Van

There are 2 flavors like Paul mentioned, a 90 amp and 130 amp. You probably want the 130 amp, it is larger, but fit in my brackets no problem. You can find photos of them on here.

I got a 3G from a junkyard for $35, took it down the street to NAPA and had it tested, it passed so I bolted it on. Cost me more to get the wires to hook it up than the alternator itself.

Here is the thread where I did my swap: http://classicbroncos.com/forums/showthread.php?t=185899

I got a pulley at NAPA that works great. Just take the serp pulley off and get a good V pulley and put it on.

Make sure the diameter is the same, or maybe a shave bigger than the stock 1G pulley. However on that note I got a pulley a shave smaller than stock and it worked and did not slip, however I took a chance and it worked out, your mileage may vary.

Also get a heavy pulley with a bit of a spacer feature on the inside. You will need that to clear the housing. NAPA had 2 pulleys when I got mine. A thick solid one, and another that looked like stamped sheet metal. Get the solid one, it should have the spacer feature, and even with that the clearance was very close between pulley and housing.

94-95 mustang 5.0 aswell

Thought I'd re-visit this to clarify something. The '94/'95 Mustang does indeed have a 3G, but you can't use it unless you have the specific serpentine system that came on those two year Mustangs.
They're almost as desirable as the Explorer setup, but with a slightly different layout. However, the alternators will only fit that one bracket because they're the "side-mount" type of alternator.

Good stuff, but you have to use the full front dress to use one.

Like mapper said, simply get a new pulley or use the one off of your current alternator. Same shaft size (usually), so should just go right on.

Ford has been using serpentine systems on some cars since at least '79 (still 1G's at that point), so way before the 3G came into play.
