Air Conditioning System Recommendation

I've searched and most posts look to be a few years old so I wanted to check back on this topic. I'll be getting a 69 model in December that'll have a crate 302 and I want to add A/C to it, so I wanted to see which model is the best and easiest to install. Most previous recommendations seem to be Vintage Air, is that still the case?

If it is Vintage Air, should I buy from one vendor versus another? I wasn't sure if one vendor had a customized kit that was better than any of the others.

Vintage air makes a nice complete kit. They have good customer service in my experience. I just order the kits through summit racing since it’s easiest for me and I can tag on a few smaller things and have it all shipped free. Restomod air has a very nice compact kit but requires more work and fabrication to install it.

I installed a system from Auto A/C solutions in a prior project, a '64 C10. Was very pleased with the system, which looked to be very similar to the Old Air systems. Easy install, and very effective. I'll probably use them for the Bronco when I get to that point. Link to Bronco kit.

You can probably expect results from an AC unit in NC. Not in Az though.

I just install one from classic auto air in a 71 bronco. It fit well but it’s an early bronco so space is always a premium. I think every a/c system on the market require some modifications to the truck

I did the old air kit. They have a bronco specific kit and I chose a different outlet style. I think Old Air may be the only ones left to sell push/pull cable style. I went with a honda civic condenser/dryer setup and made my own hoses.

Out of the norm option would be an all electric system. Don't know of a Bronco Specific. Might help with packaging??

Yes, space in the EB is SO tight behind that dash!!!! I ran my hoses between the evaporator and firewall so it is really tight.

The last I knew BC was selling a Vintage system, but one with there own duct system that outflows the regular Vintage system. You can only get the high flow ducts through BC Broncos.

Something to think about, the rest of the interior needs to be A/C ready as well. You do have a headliner, right? Without one the A/C will struggle. Bare steel is a horrible at thermal isolation. Very little does a lot. A little fabric, a touch of foam backing, world of difference. That goes for the floors as well.
How is the weatherstrip? If it is drafty the A/C won't stay in. Like trying to run A/C with a window open.

I appreciate the feedback, this is good to know. The floor will have insulation and carpet, the top won't have a headliner. I may just see how it goes without one and consider it as an add on down the road if I need it.

You will want to insulate the top for sure or your over working the AC system constantly.

I pieced mine together from parts from wild horses swap meet over the years. Not sure of the brand of the evaporator unit. I used the explorer AC compressor as I did the explorer swap. I Used a Vintage air condenser but it’s small. Made my own hoses. I need to insulate the top. I will be adding window tint. As it feels like the sun is coming right thru the window due to no UV protection. Make sure you get a four core radiator if you drive in hot weather.

A good ceramic window tint will make a huge difference. Mine is virtually clear but really keeps the heat out.
