Dome light

Wanting to install two dome lights. One at middle roof and one mounted to wiper cover. Want to run door activated grounding switches to both. No problem there but also want to be able to turn on light inside cab at the light itself. Seems that will require light with three wires…hot and two grounds.

Any suggestions?

Assuming the light will have a fused power, the ground can be split to go to the door to activate it, or "T" it and put a grounding switch at the light.

Here’s what I did when I installed two lights under the dash. They are activated by door switches which do not ground. They simply complete the circuit to the grounded bulbs. I also put an override switch under the dash in one of those holes under the steering column. There are two routes for power to the new bulbs. It can come thru the green wire in the diagram from the existing dome light wire at the headlight switch, or thru the blue wire which goes thru the override switch to the door switches. It’s a simple add on harness using the headlight switch connections.
When you turn the dome light on with the headlight switch, or open a door, all the lights come on. If you want to leave a door open you can turn the lights off with the override switch.

Painless actually has some good info on this issue. Will be buying two dome lights that have only a hot and a ground. The grounds all run together to the door switches. The drivers door switch has two grounds…one goes to the dome lights and the other goes to D2 on light switch with D1 going to ground.

This set up allows domes to turn on by doors or by light switch.
