Hello fellas. I'm running the Wildhorses Explorer front dress power steering bracket that has a mount for an ignition coil. My question is those with throttle body EFI's, what coils have you found that fit this bracket? I'm running a holley sniper with a canister coil, but would like to switch to a sqaure style to clean things up a bit and use the mount (The sniper coil is too small). I'm running a 6AL MSD box with it. Not sure if that matters much...

Paul where you at sir 😄

That mount is made for a Fox body Mustang TFI coil. You can run the MSD Blaster TFI (or any other brand TFI) coil, as long as you drive the coil with the MSD box. In other words, the Holley coil driver will drive the MSD, and the MSD will drive the TFI coil. You will also need to find the correct coil connector for a 1993 Mustang You can get them on Amazon or pretty much any parts store.

Hah! Fell sound asleep while reviewing your question! But rocknhorse has you covered.
Was simply going to suggest one of the standard footprint e-Core / TFI coils from Pertronix or MSD. Or maybe just a stock Mustang/pickup/Bronco replacement from the local parts store.
Well, that’s what I would’ve said if I had stayed awake!

So one more quick question brother, I am diving my MSD6 box with the sniper and have the two wires +/- going to the coil. I'm noticing the TFI coil plug has like 5 wires going to it. I'll do some research, but if you know off the top of your head how to wire it up with only the +/- from the MSD box, I'm all ears...
I'm going to Google the pinout also to see what I find

Five wires? Out of my element here.
The only extra one I can think of might be a tach signal. Either for the instruments, or the computer. Or both.

Are you looking at the TFI itself, or the TFI coil? One or more of the connectors that I harvested had three or four wires coming out of it, but there are only two contacts in the connector.

FWIW I've run the so-called "E-Core" (laminated type) ignition coils with a std Ford blue D-S II module and with an MSD6A. I can't tell you what the donors were, but I'm pretty sure that they were not Mustangs. That coil is used on everything Ford built after their intro date.

Was just thinking the same thing. The TFI has five or six connectors while the coil only has two.
That I know of…

Thank you very much for that info!

Hey sorry, been busy the past few days. The coil plug should only have 3 wires on it. The one by itself is positive, and the two that are together are negative.

I've not ever felt like the OEM Ford E-Core coil wasn't more than enough coil to get it done. Maybe on something like a Drag Race Super Comp car or faster, but not on anything street driven or off-road driven.

Here's a typical TFI coil harness.

Red wire positive, two green wires are negative, one for the coil, other for tach, if you have one.

The msd blaster tfi coil doesn't fit in the wild horses bracket. The housing of the coil is too big. FYI
I didn’t have any fitment issues with the MSD TFI coil in my bracket. They do make a few different versions though, so maybe they differ in size.

So a little update fellas... I ended up installing the MSD TFI coil, BUT I had to use my grinder on both side of the plastic to clear the bracket. I only took off what I needed to clear, and after that, it slipped right in and bolted down without an issue. I hooked it all up and it's running great now! If the bracket was about 1/4" wider then I wouldn't have needed to grind the coil housing. The bracket is real nice, but won't fit the MSD TFI coil without doing that

Curious do you have picture of it? I wonder if i'm installing it wrong
No, I switched to EDIS with Explorer coil packs a few years ago. I could probably take some pics later though since I just happen to have the A/C compressor off right now.
