driveshaft / yoke match up

Got a problem with the bolt spacing on the yoke of my 205 T case. The stock bronco driveshaft u joint fits the yoke but wont bolt up because the 205 yoke bolt pattern is not as wide as the D 20. Is there a yoke out there for the 205 that uses the same u joint but has a wider bolt spacing? Its about 3/16'' to narrow.

Not sure if I understand the problem so I'll just pass on what I have found.
First not all of the 205's have CV style yokes. (I'm going to guess that yours doesn't) For the correct yoke it will depend on what CV you go with. If you want to just use the EB driveshaft (1310 CV) then the yoke off a 78 Bronco should work. It will probably require another conversion seal to work though since the seal diameter on the yoke will probably be different. The other option is to upgrade the CV to a 1330 CV. (If you still need to have a driveline built then that may be the way to go) This uses a wider 1330 u-joint and the yoke off a 79 Bronco should work for it. I think this one uses the standard rear seal. I would need to go out and look at the back of mine to be sure since I upgraded it to the 1330 one and I think I had to put the standard seal back in. If you go with the 1310 EB driveline and have problems finding the right yoke let me know as I still have the one I took off mine somewhere (Just need to find it). JBG sells the conversion seal for this but I think it is the same as a 205 front yoke seal so the local parts store should be able to supply it as well.

The 205 came out of a 150. It has the small u joint yokes on it. The same u joint that the stock bronco uses. I tried to bolt up the bronco drive shaft to the 205 yoke. The u joint fit but the cv joint bolt pattern is wider than the 205 yoke and wont bolt up. so I guess I need to find 2 yokes that fit the 205 that use the same u joint but have a wider bolt pattern.

Ok saddle up, your right it is not a cv style yoke. just went out and checked. So I have a new problem, I need cv style yokes for a 205 that use the bronco u joint. How hard is that? ?:?

I think I have it figured out now. The 66 to 70 Bronco's came with a Borg Warner CV that is 1 7/8" between bolts. The Spicer CV was used after that with 1 1/2" between them. I don't know if the 205 ever came with yokes for the Borg Warner CV so I'm not sure if you will be able to find them or not. The ones on the 78/79 Bronco are spicer and I would guess the ones you have now probably are as well. (Sounds like they are the same as the 78 Bronco yokes) Here is a page that shows the difference in the EB CV's.

First check the post I made above as that may shed a little more light on it. If you have the spicer CV then I think you will need to look for 76 to 78 full size yokes. This guess is based on the yokes sold by JBG # 22489 http://broncograveyard.com/bronco/c-106_drive_shafts.htm
You will want to do a bit of measuring though first to make sure your getting the right thing. $70 (JBG Price) is a good deal for new but you should be able to get them from a wrecking yard for a lot less.

I think you figured it out. I come up with part # 22491 JBG. You were also right about the conversion seal. Thanks for the help!!!

I think that's the 1330 CV yoke. Measure the distance across the u-joint first and make sure it is 3 7/8" across. I think both style of EB joints are 1310 which are 3 1/2" across.

I went to the local 4x4 junk yard and did some dumpster diving for yokes. Match up the spline count and you're good to go.

a picture may be worth 1000 words. I know I could of typed 1000 words in the time it took me to figure out how to send these.
I took them this morning. I do not understand the 3 1/2'' u joint vs the 3 7/8'' The u joint is 3 1/4'' One bolt pattern is 1 1/2'' the other is 1 7/8'' I think the part I need is JBG 22491 and the matching seals. Correct me if I am wrong.

Note the flying truck.

That's the wrong yoke. The 79 Yoke is for a larger 1330 u-joint. I found the actual u-joint measurements.
1310 (Small) - 1.0625" Cap, 3.2188" across
1310 (Large) - 1.125" Cap, 3.2188" across (This is what the EB and 76-78 Full Size uses)
1330 (Small) - 1.0625" Cap, 3.625" across
1330 (Large) - 1.125" Cap, 3.625" across (This is what the 79 Bronco/Full Size uses)
1350 - 1.188" Cap, 3.625" across
1410 - 1.188" Cap, 4.188" across

The problem here is that your driveshafts are the older Borg Warner Type instead of the Spicer type. I don't know if they ever made a CV Yoke for the NP205 that fits a Borg Warner CV. (None of the ones at JBG do, they are all the newer spicer type) The best bet is probably going to be to dig through them at the wrecking yard and see if you can find them. If you want new then you might try Six States Distributing or see if there is a local Driveline shop near you. If you can't find the right yoke you might need to get drivelines made with the spicer CV. If you do then you might consider upgrading to the 1330 (79 Full Size) instead of the 1310.

I just checked my old 66 driveshafts. They have the spicer cv joint.
My 68 has a borg warner cv joint.
I should be able to swap the cv around and it should work.

I dont want to use the 66 shafts because they are a large dia type with short slip yokes
The 68 has a small dia shaft and long slip yokes.

That just might be the ticket. I can't think of any reason the CV itself can't be changed since they use the same U-Joint. You may want to go ahead and get a couple of rebuild kits for them to replace the balls while your at it. I think they're about $11.00 for the kit.

Oh yes, they need to be rebuilt. I looked at them and I think I can swap them over. One side may have inside clips and the other may have the outside clips but I think it will work. I will use a good quality u joint and see how long they last.

Thanks for all the help.
