Remove Yoke from rear driveshaft?

I can’t seem to remove the yoke from the rear driveshaft. It will move but never separate. I’ve never had this issue with anything else including previous broncos. It’s almost like there’s some type of vacuum preventing it from coming off. Any ideas?

Is the dust shield off the end of the slip yoke? screw on or bent tabs.

Not sure which end is the dust cap on and how does it remove if needed and if there? Not sure what you mean by screw on but shouldn't have any bent tabs.

2 different designs on the driveshaft dust shield. Both designs will stop you from pulling the splined shaft out of the slip yoke.

Typically they are screwed on. They hold the packing that keeps the splines clean. Once it is unscrewed it can be taken apart in 3 pieces. The yoke, the packing, the packing retainer.

Is it on the front of the yoke where the shaft inserts into the yoke? What are the two different designs mentioned by bax? What's the best tool to use to unscrew it without any damage?

I'm not sure what style I worked with. But hand tight was all that held it on. It isn't high precision stuff. The retaining nut isn't much more than a piece of formed sheet metal into a cup shape. Maybe channel locks if it is painted into place.

Surely there is a youtube video of building a driveshaft that will show this?

My original was on pretty tight, but nothing that a pair of channel locks didn’t take care of quickly. As you suggested.

And when you say “yoke“ f2502011, you are referring to the two halves of the driveshaft. Correct? Not just the yoke section itself, which is not removable in any way, shape or form, without cutting tools.
The short side single Cardan end could certainly be called a yoke, with just a short section of tube attached to it.

The OEM shafts had a screw-on "cap" that must be threaded off to pull the spline stub. Current production stubs from RCV and Spicer etc use a hatefull rubber grove reatainer that you have beat the shit out of with hammer and a large crescent wrench or similar to get off..or on..

Got it thanks. Was on pretty tight and probably paint stuck as well but I put tape around it used a towel and channel locks and got it loose and off without any damage.

My reason for wanting to do this is because of my experience with certain types of grease and ford driveshafts. Especially on short wheelbase vehicles. A lot of times at least with me where someone has used the general dark grey or red chassis grease it is just too sticky so that when you stop or start off it binds and you get a kinda clunk you can feel. Really annoying to me so I use Motorcraft XG-8 PTFE lubricant and that makes it smooth as silk.

Make sure and put it back in the same location as it came off. You don't want to be out of phase with the other u joints.
