Barn Find to Daily Driver - a "Drive it Ugly" '69 Bronco Project!

Glad you're enjoying it. I'll keep the updates coming for a few more weeks and then it will be a while before I get back after it. I'm moving for work for a few years, but leaving a lot of cars and tools back here at the mother ship.

Barn Find to Daily Driver - a "Drive it Ugly" '69 Bronco Project!

I hear you, but the PO really took half-assed repairs to the PhD level on this one... Having said that, you certainly have a valid point about no Broncos in wrecking yards. Thanks

Barn Find to Daily Driver - a "Drive it Ugly" '69 Bronco Project!

And for yet another installment of interesting repairs, we have the passenger side axle that came out of the 9" rear diff. Looks normal, you say? Take a closer look! It looks like it snapped at some point and was welded back together. However, it gets better -- it looks like whoever did the...

Barn Find to Daily Driver - a "Drive it Ugly" '69 Bronco Project!

A few better pics and more details on the jury rigged rear springs. These started life as stock springs with 5 leaves (or 4 regular leaves + the overload leaf). The PO added two springs to each side, for a total of 7 leaves. He also had load bearing coil assisted shocks front and rear. It will...

Barn Find to Daily Driver - a "Drive it Ugly" '69 Bronco Project!

Picture is of the bolt that came out of the block versus the plug that was supposed to be there. As you can see, the threads are definitely different. I'm a bit surprised that the PO didn't completely strip the threads, but I was able to thread the plug in without too much trouble.

Damaged Leaf Spring Hanger Bracket - Hogged Out Holes

Ok, I got some 5/8" weld washers on order from Ruff Stuff. Thanks for all the input, I really appreciate it. Scott

Barn Find to Daily Driver - a "Drive it Ugly" '69 Bronco Project!

And for today's episode of "Sins of the Prior Owner," we have a long nail masquerading as a cotter pin. Nice. And for those who don't worry whether their rear end is still venting (insert fart joke here), you can see from the attached pictures that if your vent is plugged, your rear will vent...

How to ID Factory Steel Wheels?

So I got the tires off the wheels and measured them. Looks like I have four different types of wheels that came off the same '66 Bronco! Left is 15 x 6. Middle bottom is 15 x 5.5, large center bore. Middle top is 15 x 5.5, regular center bore. Right is 15 x 5. Would be nice if I could do...

Damaged Leaf Spring Hanger Bracket - Hogged Out Holes

Fellas - Removed the redneck* rear springs from my '69 yesterday noticed that the holes are hogged out on the frame mount where the front eye mounting bolt passes through. I'm guessing the PO removed the rear springs at some point (or at least unbolted them) and didn't torque the bolt down...

Options for 9" 31 Spline Upgrade...

Ok. Don’t have a choice there.

Barn Find to Daily Driver - a "Drive it Ugly" '69 Bronco Project!

The jackassery continues on the suspension, of course. As you can see in the picture, the PO used some metal straps to keep his homegrown "add a leaf" spring kit together. One of the added leaves was something that someone had cut using a torch; no telling what it came from. The u-bolts...

Barn Find to Daily Driver - a "Drive it Ugly" '69 Bronco Project!

More progress...and some interesting half-ass repairs made by the PO... First, I managed to pull the driver's side exhaust manifold without breaking of a bolt or a stud. I'm going to chalk that up to a liberal soaking in Kroil. Anyway, I didn't see an obvious source the the leak, but I still...

Options for 9" 31 Spline Upgrade...

It's a higher mileage '69 that was a hunting truck, so it's already seen some abuse and neglect. Has 3.50 gears, stock 3 sp manual, 302 right now, but going to a 347 and NP435. Tires are 32's; I doubt I'll ever go bigger than 33's. thanks for the input.

Options for 9" 31 Spline Upgrade...

Thanks for the input. I have the rear diff apart now and giving some thought to just reassembling it and running it as is for now.

Options for 9" 31 Spline Upgrade...

Are your gears damaged? If not, I don't think I'd replace them.

Options for 9" 31 Spline Upgrade...

TrueTrac sounds like it would work. I have one of those in my Javelin (swapped in a 9") and my Fairlane convt already but I haven't put any miles on the Javelin and only a few on the Fairlane. I definitely don't want a spool. As for the Detroit Locker, I hear today's versions are a bit...

Options for 9" 31 Spline Upgrade...

Fellas - I'm ready to upgrade the 28 spline small bearing 9" and wanted to check to see if I was on the right track. Intended use of this '69 Bronco is on and off road, but it won't be a hard core rock crawler. Tires are currently 32 x 11.5 x 15. Plan to add a fairly stout 347 in the...

Nice, but what's that white stuff on the ground and on your Bronco???

Any Pictures of Cut/Flared Bronco, Not Lifted, With 33x12.50x15's?

32 x 11.50 x 15 FTW (For the Win)!!! Saw these on FB Marketplace today and pulled the trigger. $200 for the set - they look like OG Gumbo Mudders, but they're radials. Wheels look like they might be 78-79 Bronco 15 x 8. Looks 100% better! Still sits a bit high in the back, but I'll...

In Depth Discussion - Selling Title and Glovebox Door with Tag, Title Issues, etc.

Ok, so I have more details on The Vermont Loophole. -On vehicles older than 15 years, Vermont doesn't issue titles, so your registration functions as your title, too. -Vermont will register a vehicle for a non-resident. You do not need to have a Vermont address, any ties to the jurisdiction...
