Are My Dana 20 T-Shift Gears Junk? Perfect? Somewhere In Between?

I'm rebuilding a Dana 20 T-shift for my '69 Bronco barn find project. When I drained the fluid, it was really thick and sparkly, so that made me nervous. Anyway, this is my first time rebuilding one, so I'm not sure what right looks like. I don't need perfect (i.e., I don't want to spend $500...

    Snap Ring Hell - Dana 20 T

I saw the Jason and Josie video; it was helpful. I was initially using ground down snap ring pliers but I couldn't get enough of a grip, which makes sense, because this is a lock ring and really needs lock ring pliers with some knurling on them. Once I got the bearing moved out of the way, I...

    Snap Ring Hell - Dana 20 T

In this video, at 12:45, that's the one. FYI - if you have a J-shift, you don't have the snap ring.

    Snap Ring Hell - Dana 20 T

That's what I was watching, but I used a slightly different approach. Thanks

    Snap Ring Hell - Dana 20 T

That's what I did. I used two large screwdrivers to move the bearing and then I used some lock ring pliers to get the snap ring off. As soon as I got the bearing out of the way, I was done in about 20 seconds. Thanks

    Snap Ring Hell - Dana 20 T

I have to move the lock ring towards the bearing once it's expanded, right?

    Snap Ring Hell - Dana 20 T

I don't think that will work, but thanks for the input.

    Snap Ring Hell - Dana 20 T

Tearing down the Dana 20 in my '69. It's a t-shift so it has the lock ring. Any tips on getting it out? I can get on it, but just barely, with some Knipex snap ring pliers that I slightly modified, but still no joy. Also, if I ever manage to spread it, which way do I go with it? Thanks! Scott

    Budget'ish '69 302 Garage Rebuild...

Good points on the cylinder heads. I'll have to check the date code. Thanks

Barn Find to Daily Driver - a "Drive it Ugly" '69 Bronco Project!

Trans and transfer case are on the bench; I plan to rebuild them first, then the engine. Transfer case rebuild kit should be here before the weekend.

    Budget'ish '69 302 Garage Rebuild...

Correct, engineering numbers don't necessarily have to correlate, but the date codes should be reasonably tight for an engine that was relatively common. I'm guessing the date codes on most engine components (i.e., heads, blocks, and intakes) would normally fall within about 2 weeks of each...

Recommendation on 3 Speed Manual Rebuild Kit?

I see Wild Horses has a rebuild kit that has decent ratings, but I'm wondering if anyone had any recent experience and recommendations on kits. I blew my '69 apart and need to rebuild the trans. . Thanks, Scott

    Budget'ish '69 302 Garage Rebuild...

Got the spare 302 - the one that I plan to build - partially disassembled yesterday. Bores are 4" (i.e., it hasn't been bored) and looked good with no ridge. FOMOCO timing chain. I did not remove the oil pan. Anyway, seems like a bit of a hodgepodge - the intake is a D30E, dated...

Engine is about ready to come out, but I'll drop the trans and transfer case out the bottom first.

    Budget'ish '69 302 Garage Rebuild...

Time to get moving on the project barn-find '69 Bronco that I bought way back in 2019. I got it running several years ago but the original 302 block is cracked, so that has to go. I'll yank the engine/trans/transfer case this weekend. I sourced a 302 out of another early Bronco to build...

Barn Find to Daily Driver - a "Drive it Ugly" '69 Bronco Project!

Bronco is now in the shop. Finally. Plan is to pull the engine, trans/transfer case this weekend. May end up removing the Dana 30 while I'm at it.

In Depth Discussion - Selling Title and Glovebox Door with Tag, Title Issues, etc.

Updating this thread - I understand the Vermont loophole has closed down. That's quite unfortunate, especially for states where a bonded title is not an option.
