That's what I did. I used two large screwdrivers to move the bearing and then I used some lock ring pliers to get the snap ring off. As soon as I got the bearing out of the way, I was done in about 20 seconds. Thanks

I have to move the lock ring towards the bearing once it's expanded, right?

Tearing down the Dana 20 in my '69. It's a t-shift so it has the lock ring. Any tips on getting it out? I can get on it, but just barely, with some Knipex snap ring pliers that I slightly modified, but still no joy. Also, if I ever manage to spread it, which way do I go with it? Thanks! Scott

Trans and transfer case are on the bench; I plan to rebuild them first, then the engine. Transfer case rebuild kit should be here before the weekend.

Correct, engineering numbers don't necessarily have to correlate, but the date codes should be reasonably tight for an engine that was relatively common. I'm guessing the date codes on most engine components (i.e., heads, blocks, and intakes) would normally fall within about 2 weeks of each...

I see Wild Horses has a rebuild kit that has decent ratings, but I'm wondering if anyone had any recent experience and recommendations on kits. I blew my '69 apart and need to rebuild the trans. . Thanks, Scott

Got the spare 302 - the one that I plan to build - partially disassembled yesterday. Bores are 4" (i.e., it hasn't been bored) and looked good with no ridge. FOMOCO timing chain. I did not remove the oil pan. Anyway, seems like a bit of a hodgepodge - the intake is a D30E, dated...

Engine, trans, and transfer case are out. Made a bit of a mess in the garage in the process.

Engine is about ready to come out, but I'll drop the trans and transfer case out the bottom first.

Time to get moving on the project barn-find '69 Bronco that I bought way back in 2019. I got it running several years ago but the original 302 block is cracked, so that has to go. I'll yank the engine/trans/transfer case this weekend. I sourced a 302 out of another early Bronco to build...

Bronco is now in the shop. Finally. Plan is to pull the engine, trans/transfer case this weekend. May end up removing the Dana 30 while I'm at it.

Updating this thread - I understand the Vermont loophole has closed down. That's quite unfortunate, especially for states where a bonded title is not an option.
