Official Air Cleaner Thread

It is a new year again, so I might as well start something new.
This years thread is on air cleaners and the different styles from 66-77.
As usual, if I have pics of somebody's rig that they don't want posted let me know and I will delete them...
I also have questions just like everybody else that I hope other knowledgeable people will chime in and help clarify...

Let's start with a plain 'ol 1966 inline 6 oil bath.
I am not sure how long this exact style stayed in production.

I need a good pic of a 1966-1968 289 V8 oil bath air cleaner here.
Here is one with a 302 sticker opened up to see the internal parts.
I believe it to be the same as the 289 version.

This is the dry element 289 V8 style that was available from 1967 to 1968.

Pretty sure that the 1969 style was just a decal change to note the new 302.

For 1970 we get a new style with a ribbed top, Ford blue, and slightly longer to make room for
the new automatic choke.
The new snorkel now faces forward and still has a heat riser off the manifold.

For 1971 and 1972 the breather hose is now moved to the bottom of the air cleaner.

I was told that this was the new '72 I6 air cleaner, but I cannot confirm.

1973 was a big year for changes, going clear up through the core support for fresh air now.
This required a new core support, plastic intake piece, and connection hose.
The snorkel is now in a different position.
Also note that we have the addition of the vacuum pot on the hot air valve to assist now.
1974 is usually the same.

I was told that this was a 1973 inline 6 air cleaner, sorry I cannot confirm.
I am sure someone will chime in and I can change it.

For 1975 we start getting more and more smog equipment.
This style is usually seen carried over into 1976 as well.

And lastly, the 1977 version has almost a flat top, with a slight slope towards the snorkel where the 302 decal goes, but not the pronounced “dished out” area.

No problem. I am sure we can find some changes from state to state on smog
requirements, and I don't know hardly a thing about the I6's, but hopefully this will
start us in the right direction anyway. :)

I learned from this thread that I have a 70 air cleaner (provided by the PO, uninstalled when I bought the rig) for my 69. I have the 69 brace that runs up from the side of the engine to the air cleaner still installed. Just one more thing...%)

Well, most years have the same brace. It could be correct depending on build date I imagine.
Anybody have an all original '69 with the '70 style? All the ones I have seen do not.

The '73-'74 is the most desirable to me. That's the one I use except with the '77 top. I'm building a '68 with all the best of factory parts not needed for emissions reasons. It's kind of a guess at what a '77 would have been like, without government meddling.
