First in post #11 is a photo of an obviously '77 engine bay. Not a '75 as claimed.

Correct, I was using the pic referencing the one hole in the bottom, but I believe those were more found on 77’s.

All the '77s had 2 holes in the front one for a cold weather modulator and one for a catalyst protection sensor. Mine had the cold weather modulator and a rubber plug. The various DSOs called for different equipment.

Not all of them. Most I have seen had one, again, probably DSO specific.

Post #29 claimed that late '77s had black air cleaners. My '77 was built in very late '77, and it's blue. The production '77s were blue, but replacement parts were black.

I haven’t seen a black one either, but all of my threads are open for discussion. ;D

I also want to point out that the long tops with ribs were a change made in 1970 to make room for automatic chokes.

I already had that referenced on the 1970 (one year only) pic.

The ONLY reason for the longer top of the '70 air cleaner was the automatic choke. Previous years all had exhaust heat rising shrouds. The '70's just moved the shroud to the front. This happened to all Ford small blocks. Many of the induction parts for other Fords can be correctly transplanted to EBs, the exhaust shroud is sometimesone if them. The new photo in post #11 may be a '75, but there's so much weird crap that isn't part of '75 Broncos or any Bronco, it's hard to see what features were introduced in '75. I know it's hard to get good photos of original engine bays. I've been looking for years. I will look for a better, more original photo of a '75.
Unfortunately the well designed factory air cleaners were one of the first parts tossed by pinheads who buy cheesy open element chrome or billet bling. Try to find a clean heat shroud for the '73-'77s. The after market does reproductions for performance Mustangs but so far, not for EBs. Mine is like new and I'm willing to provide photos to anyone willing to reproduce them. I don't even have good pictures of the earlier EB heat riser shrouds. This thread is needed, so I'm willing to help.

I agree, the Post 11 pic is a cluster, but the air cleaner is correct and that was the best
pic I had on hand at the time. Luckily I have a low mileage all original 75 of my own, I just
need to go get a pic so I can update that post...

I’m trying figure out this air cleaner that I just picked up. The hot air intake tube seems to be pointing the wrong direction. Any thoughts?

after '73 or 4 wasn't that snorkel a lill to the pass's side? A 'fresh air tube' went behind the 'batree' (one screw to inner fender, 1 into the core support at a oval thru hole). A blk accordion hose connected the snorkel to the tube. At the A/C housing was a silver paper round 6 inch 'heat riser' underneath (abt where the fuel filter U have is). A/C housing also had "the other 1/2" of a closed PCV system and a switch opened/closed a pivoting door on the snorkel for go/no go cooler air. The opposite end from the carb was a blk 'tang' that reached dwn to the oe v/c (U can rig up something to ur alloy cover.) Pic's worth athous... (C above posts #1, 2, 3 I believe)...
U can cut, braze what U have. Its the route I'm goin. I aint payin the prices they want for these things. Too much fun to B crafty anyway...

It looks like its a 65-67 Mustang Snorkle. I guess I'll have to "B crafty".

I need the support bracket. Is it worth buying one from one of the vendors or getting crafty it also? Thanks

nah, bud.
Just get some scrap metal, take over to bench grinder, smooth up.
I think it has 2 or 4 holes, drill 'em. Spray paint 2 coatsa blk...
My house? mom went into the woods, gathered 'stuff' madea X-Mass wreath, sewed the clothes, etc. Dad converted the attic inta kid bed rms, madea stereo hutch...if U geta pic of this U can make it up (photo or exploded diagram). The snorkel is moveable (C 2 bolts?) the lght blue a/c housing one is round. It can B made to wrk too - or do U seek concourse correct? It can B done. In fact many of these prts are for Performance (MPGs, pep, clean running). If so get out $500 for purchase or DIY. That's Y I gotta bronk (just me, tho)~

The rest of the air cleaner assembly includes the passenger side exhaust manifold, that changed over the years of Bronco production. Most of these changes were made to accommodate the changes in the heat rising shrouds. Without the shroud and the tubes/hoses that connect to the snorkel, there is no constant temperature intake air supply to the engine. Some of the early shrouds are in fact shared with early Mustangs and other Fords. But Mustangs have far more support from the after market, so new parts are available. The '73-'77 heat shrouds in good rust free condition are super difficult to find. Again this part is shared by most Ford vehicles with 302s from the same years. The mid and late '70s Mustangs lost the classic appeal, so there's no effort to produce correct replacement parts, and the EB parts makers haven't shown any interest in filling this void. Other areas omitted so far, are the vapor recovery systems used over the years, and the breathers that replace crankcase gases removed by the the PCV. These are all part of the air cleaner system and need to be included in an "Official Air Cleaner Thread". Emissions crap like the cold weather modulator and the catalyst temp. sensor only support other emissions crap so they're not worth mention in this thread.

The light blue one is what I found online to verify that snorkle came from the Mustang. I tried flipping it over and it points up towards the engine. I guess I'll get to fabbing a bracket.

What air filter number are you guys using?

The vacuum motor on the snorkel is activated by vacuum through a bi-metal valve on the bottom of the air cleaner base through a vacuum hose. The valve is plumbed to the vacuum tree. The purpose is to maintain a 100 degree temperature of air going into the carb. Some '76/'77s also route the vacuum through a cold weather modulator, on the front of the air cleaner.

"...the tube that comes off of it connect?"
don't have bent8 or as new'n shinny a vehicle so clueless. I'd say to a manafold vac nipple on intake. Hold up length of that hose'n C where it stretches. Hook it up & eliminate a vac leak? Geta chiltons or haynes manual'n get 2 no yer rig? Got $? get a better/more expensive ford shop manual & really B on top of ur rig...
good luck one'n all, lets bring em back the way they engineered them...
