Why and whereforezzz

My 8+ yr 418 stroker I built (Jim at Fordstrokers did the machine work) developed a very loud intermittent "chirping" noise...1 min for a day, then 5 days quiet. This is another thread but Ford Motorsports lifters were dying so the engine came out. I was literally within days from ordering a Ti style Vortch blower for it, I had built the 418 for boost... well-glad the chirp happened before, not after I ordered it.

So I have wanted an aftermarket Dart or Ford Motorsports block since Jim at Fordstrokers pointed out the #2 cam bearing to spider hold down bolt cracking issue on OE, '94-'96 roller blocks. My 418 has worked flawlessly except for the failure of the Ford Motorsports lifters.

More power needed. :)

460 Ford Motorsports Boss block. More iron than the Dart block (built a couple of those)...it came today. So excited

Built and spec'd out dozens of SBC and SBF's ...never in my life have I bought a complete, new engine...not getting any younger and I've been drooling over this block for a long time...so I got it coming.

Sweet feeling doing custom stuff all the time so its only your creation...I had this less than 1/2 day and the HB, oil pan, timing cover, waterpump all came off.

Then the oil pump and intermediate shaft came off to mate properly with the EDIS. The cam synchronizer that replaces the distributer which I've been running on my 418 stroker has worked great. Since it is from a
V6 it must be spaced properly (thanks Lars) to match the teeth of the cam gear. Then the intermediate shaft must be longer to fully utilize all the possible cotact between the shaft and the oil pump and the cam synchronizer

The intermediate shaft you want is for the 351C or 400M engine. As you can see in the pic above it is appr 3/8" longer which allows a positive engagement depth

That is the goal Ryan!!

I'm hoping the engine will be "in " tomorrow...plumbing with humungous fuel supply lines is a a nightmare...1/2" diameter fuel rails that only allow 6AN fitting size that actually only have a .262"ID opening...which wont support the HP numbers so you reorder...

What I'm saying is just because it says it's a particular size ID, measure it because 90% of the fittings aren't that size!!! Lines are, fittings and adapters aren't.

When I built my 438, I went with the Ford Motorsports block over dart. I had heard lots of good thing about both, but heard multiple people over and over say the casting is cleaner and nicer than dart. So I bought one. Engine builder is a big dart and brodix fan, but afterwards he said that the Ford block was probably the nicest all around iron small block Ford he had seen. Screw in freeze plugs are cool as well.

Agreed Wayne...only built 2 Dart blocks. one was a SBF 454 and it was rough. This block has been taken to the detail shop. No rough casting edges, etc

If you zoom you can still see all the weight and ID markings on the rods and pistons even after the dyno run.

Thanks...the details are amazing... extra threaded plugs in oil galleys, threaded oil plug for a return line to the pan ( probably for blower return), other details I havent seen yet. Get back on it this afternoon when I get home and install the intermediate shaft, remove the timing chain and gears to install the Exploder style cam retainer so I can install the Exploder front dress.

Are you going to run the cam that came in it? Do you happen to have a Dyno sheet?

Yes, Im going to run that cam. These engines have been dyno'd outside of the Ford dyno and are registering 600HP and torque below 5800 rpm. I dont have my dyno results for this engine yet...not sure why...other priorities then Ill ask.

Finally got it looking like it did when i got it...Exploder cover, neutral balanced Exploder HB, Melling 351C intermediate shaft...

Nothing like dismantling a complete new long block to add internal parts so it will "adapt" to the EDIS... :)

Trimming the dipstick to measure 7qts then seal it up tight to the pan...

Interesting rocker choice. The Crowers are high quality but the intake and exhaust rockers are different.

Same ratio- 1.65:1

Not much obvious progress today but the fuel rails are on, manifold is on, ordered MORE fuel line fittings, etc.

Will mock up throttle tomorrow to check WOT, and if my linkage is at 90deg when the throttle blade is appr 50%...

Hopefully be able to make my braided lines, install the FPR, and install the engine tomorrow. Lot's of header mod's already done and the primary tubes are waaay too small but will work until I build new ones for the 3" bolt spacing for the flange. Will make it much easier to access the header bolts.
