Steve is right... 40" tires literally suck the power out. I swapped some little tires on my 418 stroker a couple years back and it was easy to go sideways and pave the blacktop. :)

Bronkenn- the tire size does an amazing job at keeping the ride "civilized". lol

hoythunter- the pan is a Ford Motorsports custom pan for their 351Boss block.
Crank scraper, oil splash screen, spring loaded oil baffles. Just touches my D60 after I raised the engine 3/8" so I could use this pan... I intentionally picked a little air in the front several times last week to check interference in a real wheeling situation.

So, I put a couple hundred miles on the 460 last week in the sand dunes... One day we logged 16 miles by GPS and 54 miles on my odometer. :)

I have run 11 different tunes thru it so far. Garry (EFI Guy) has been tweeking and tuning furiously getting every little bit of HP and torque out of it that he can. He says there is more to get out of it... the HP and torque numbers he's getting are amazing.

From start up till the last tune the engine has improved from running "good" to running like a wild banshee! WOW... what a difference the fine tuning makes. I've never been a "chip" fan where you send your cam and engine specs, tire size and trans info, etc in and now I never will be.

Now that I'm home, I need to pull out another TruHi9 and see what grenaded this time...not going back to them again...it will totally screw up all my suspension geometry not having the high pinion but I can't have a rear end that won't last a week when playing...

Glad to hear the tuning is going well. Garry is a genius. We're getting ready to put my new motor in the GMR NORRA racer and have Garry do the tuning. Can't wait! Mark

Thanks for the info. Gonna try a canton pan and see how it fits. Are you running a load bolt on the ring gear on the hi9? On the ultra 4 rig we race we use them with good results.

We use Jeremy at gearworks. Sucks you’re having that problem even with a load bolt...

I am very curious to know what happened to you rear axle. Did you take it apart or find something wrong yet??

I'm in the middle of a kitchen remodel lol, I know the bearing closest to the pinion is toast as 2 entire timkin tapered roller bearings are visible pushing the seal out. I'm sure it wiped out the case also since I can't even rotate
the pinion unless I use a bar... not buying another case...

Hopefully within a week I'll yank it out

Oh wow! Not good. Are running a crush sleeve eliminator? Your 3rd is a standard HI9 with 2 load bolts right? This is the reason I couldn't pull the trigger on the HI9 3rd. As a race truck or under sponsorship its not an issue as the longevity is not priority. FWIW the ribbed 14b is a nice fit. And when setting up 10-15 degrees of pinion angle the pinion is tucked up much higher than LP 9. Extra weight and less ground clearance yes, but no proprietary parts, and can be build bomb proof for under $2k. 2 cents. That's a big set back and a bummer, exp on limited time. Your build is awesome, and the new motor looks nasty! Look forward to seeing whats next!

I have been reading a lot of threads on Pirate and other hard core forums about TruHi9 pocket brg issues and a multitude of other issues.

Gearworks 10/9 3.812" brg third memebers seem to have a hell of a rep.

I think I'll start a post asking for feedback on the Gearworks HiPinion with the 10" ring gear.

They run larger industrial brgs instead of automotive pinion brgs to take the extreme loading of the pulling taking place with the Hipinion.

I'll call RuffStuff today and ask them if it will accomodate a 10" ring gear-that would save a ton of money...

78ina69...I am seriously considering a 14 bolt...but that means new ARB, new custon axles, new FF setup...BUT-...money talks and rebuilding the same "suoerduty, heavy duty, HiPinion, "race proven" " that won't last... is getting old

When I last looked at Gearworks 10, I think the only available ratio was 5.43.

They were talking other ratios but...5.43 only would be typical for me... I run 5.13's so I would have to change the front D60 R&P also...

I see of the Ultra 4 guys rock racing are using Gearworks 10's. I think they fit into a RS housing and they are huge even comparing them to Mega HI9. But they are over $3500 for a 3rd. My inner Ford guy was very hesitant to go 14b, but after building 2 now, it starts to make sense. Really easy to build, they come apart like a super sized 9". The pinion is super short to help keep the rear shaft long. Yukon locker is $450, gears, disc swap with over the counter stuff. It would be hard to break a stock rear shaft and chromos are like $250 each that would be bombproof. The ribbed housings are 65.5 wms, early ones are 67.5 and duallys are 70.5 with 3 hub options. Then with all the money saved you can purchase a power adder. haha. Proprietary race stuff is awesome to look at and operate until there is an issue that leaves you stranded

I priced out a 14 bolt last night...very rough estimates...mostly from one site...

Forged yoke- 115,
gears $418 ,
gear install kit $388 ,(why so $$$)
custom 35 dblspline $970
or 40 dblspline axles $1070 ,
FF kit $259 40 spline $395,
ARB $1050
Crush sleeve eliminator $62.38
TMR shave kit$ 179
https://www.bustedknuckleoffroad.co...INING-REQUIRED-14-bolt-shave-kit-W-machin.htm

Ujoint straps (must upgrade) Parts Mike or High Angle Driveline 37 deg ujoints ,

Hubs- BustedKnuckleoffroad.com
https://www.bustedknuckleoffroad.com/14-bolt-axle-shafts_c286.htm has
used hubs for $50 each which includes brgs, seal, etc
Rear disc brake brkts $85, all brake kit LugNut 4x4 appr $300

New drivelines-probably $200 each for new ends or more

I know this is a ROUGH estimate...very rough. I also need to check to see why yhe R&P install kit is so $$

I won't run any rear locker that isn't selectable in my climate...

Dbl splined axles for a FF is a trip saver for me if anything internal grenades...like this past trip in Florence, I can drive my rig out of the dunes, around town, out of the hills or on the road because of the flexibility of a FF- I used it a decade before when I grenaded a LP 9" also... saved a weekend then.

If staying 9", you can always go back to LP9 housing and try to make your rear shaft angle work. Getting a big boy LP 9 or 9.5 gear from the drag race world should hold up to your abuse. Drop the ride height and limit the droop...or 14b

The GearWorks 10" will fit the RS housing. I also got a quote from Barry. Very helpful, knowledgeable guy.

The highest ratio they make is a 5.43:1. So I'd have to change my frt D60 to a 5.38 and then spend mega bucks to make it happen.

I need to rip this burned up HP I have apart and see where I'm at...3 options and I know 2 of them aren't very cheap. I'll know more about option 3 by next week...

thx
