Has anyone used a 12 ton pipe bender to bend 2" sch. 40 pipe (.154/4mm)?

I'm looking at a bender and it says the max. pipe thickness is 12 guage (.118/3mm).

let me know your thoughts.

thanks;)

I tried that Harbor Freight POS on 2" once. no need for a trip to the gym for a week after making a couple of bends. It did a nice job of flattening out the pipe as well. The die needed to be rebuilt (hard faced)

But on the ½" brass pipe for the pool light it did work good.

Iv never used mine to bend 2" but Iv had no problem bending 1 1/4 and 1 1/2, and mines a HF.

I have a friend who works in a food factory and they use thick seamless pipe on there machines the pips has a thick wall not sure what it is but its heavy, We tried the bender on that and it worked fine even did a 90* bend.

I've used the HF one to bend 2" x .120 but I don't think I've used it on anything thicker. Don't try any tight radius bends unless you pack it with sand though.

I'm still waiting on a shops quote. If they're too high I'll try bending myself. I know most of you are thinking good luck with that;D

Thanks for the feed back!

What are you planning on making with it? We made some bumpers with the hf bender but we went with a tubing bender for our cages.

I'm bending 2" (2 3/8" O.D. in INS) sch 40. ERW. The pipe was dirt cheap so I'm not that worried about a bad outcome, but figured it would be worth it, as a friend of mine wants the bender after I'm done with it. I don't really lose out if the pipe turns out good. Ya I know it's a risk, but I'm looking to the Bronco God's to pull this one through;D

There needs to be a smiley face with hands infront like he's praying!;)

I should mention I would go with the 16 ton bender vs. the 12 ton, as it should be able to bend it, but of course the question is how well will it bend!? I've got lots of sand!!

Mine is the 16 ton. It will bend the pipe you have but it may not be pretty. Its according to how tight you need the bends.

What are you making? Bumper? Cage?
If its a cage keep in concideration that 2 3/8 pip is quite heavy. My old cage was made out of this and weighed a ton and it was a pre runner style. It took at least 3 people to muscle it in and out of my rig. With the cage in and the top off it was more top heavy than with the top on and my smitty built bar in. And with the top on and the cage in it was very very top heavy and sometimes scary!
My family cage out of 2" .120 weighed way less and I with 2 people its a breeze to lift and drop right in. Not trying to discourage you but you might want to figure out how much your going to need for your design and then weigh a stick to get an approximate weight of what the finished product might be.

I lifted both pieces myself, so I should be okay to put in with two guys. It is for a 4pt Cage.
I have two sticks; 1 is 13' and other is 17'. I think all together it weighs about 115lbs. I used to be able to curl that;D I have drawn my design in CADD and did my take off for materials from that, so I should be good to go!

The thicker pipe should be easier to get a good bend with. Filling it with sand will keep it from crushing to get a tighter bend. FWIW, Every bend on mine with the exception of the original main hoop that was there when I bought it has been made with one of the HF benders. For my purpose it worked fine. If I was competing then I would use a regular tubing bender.
