1966 Fuel/Vacuum hard line routing

Hello forum,
I'm hoping I learn enough about this truck that someday I'll be able to sit and read posts and say I know that, I can help them...

This post is two questions: There are three hard lines that run around the valve cover - to the carb for fuel, carb for vacuum, and intake manifold for vacuum. mine are pretty badly bent up. I looked at a couple restorations to see how they were routed, and there doesn't appear to be a standard. Is there a proper way to route them? Vacuum on the carb seems to be the strangest, out, around UP and over, then down... which leads me to my second part. there's a bracket on the valve cover that i read somewhere here used to have a clip on it or something and would hold the fuel/vacuum lines in place? am i remembering that incorrectly? I've heard they're hard to find, and i can't even find a picture they seem to be so scarce. Does anyone have a photo of properly routed lines - that must be neat and straight i just can't see them coming out of the factory all catywhompus... and possibly a photo of the clip that held them in place so i can fab one or go looking?

My Studebaker pickup has a parts manual that covers everything... it's an inch and a half thick and for the 6 years my truck was made it has a list of all the parts and drawings... is there a parts manual for these trucks that i can use to go looking or is it even necessary? if i don't have the proper name i can't seem to find things. like this clip, i searched for valve cover clip, vacuum line clip, vacuum line routine, vacuum line route, fuel line...

thank you so much, i hope everybody has a happier new year 2021, and looking forward to answering some of these posts myself someday!

I can take some pics this evening but it will be later on.

sorry to rob the thread however since you are taking pics can you take one of your hood prop rod? i believe the 66-67 and maybe 68? are different from the 69-77 years. i have a hood prop rod however i got to installing it yesterday and it doesn't make any sense to me how goes on. I bought my bronco completely disassembled so i am not even sure if i have the original hood prop rod.

thanks

i just tried posting a pic... can't do it, learning more about this forum every day. i'll read the faq to learn why i can't but i'll be happy to post a pic of my prop rod... with my bronco in my garage there are 4 bicycles over the hood - i drive in till i see one bike move because the tire hits the roof then i know i can clear the bumper and the garage door... uno momento por favor... but tomorrow i'll back it out enough to lift the hood and photograph the rod. it's a simple straight rod, attaches to the passenger side of the radiator and is loose vertical to a hole in the hood. the rod has two 90 degree bends at the end, i'll take pictures tomorrow and figure out how to post them.

The carb is original, the fuel pump is not. Pretty surenthe hard lines are original as well. Sorry I didn't see the prop rod request before I went to the shop.

Well, as simple as the old prop rod is, I would not say it's very intuitive either!
It mounts to the hole on the passenger side reverse of the way you often think it should, then when it's down and "latched" over on the driver's side basically folded back over the core support to the engine side. Sorry no pics yet, but like I said, if yours didn't have one, and you're not intimately familiar, you might not get it intuitively.
The pics should spell it out though.

And regarding the bent hard lines, I'd be willing to be they were not even standardized by Ford! You might find things that were the same way two years in a row, but not everything was like that. The fuel lines on the V8 engines changed quite a bit in little fits and spurts over the years, even though the basic carburetor and layout remained the same.
And then you have creative PO's that seem to think that a nicely bent smooth fuel line must be kinked and re-bent and re-kinked in some sort of personalization ritual in order for it to work correctly. Kind of like re-wiring under the dash just because you were under there one day and didn't like the way the wires looked!

Good luck.

Your valve cover should have a little bracket spot welded onto the front. The little clip hooks onto that. I think I got a clip from Dennis Carpenters, or NPD, not sure...I'll check tonight. If you look in NPD's Mustang catalog you can find the pre bent lines...I've got them, but haven't put the motor together yet so not sure how they'll fit.

Thanks u13fl.. couldn’t find it on npd under bronco but I took your tip for mustang and found it and it even mentions bronco as an application. Four bucks but nine shipping I’ll look around but now know it exists like Sasquatch and Nessie! And they have a great photo of the line routing using it on a 170. Thank you!

Here are some pics of the prop rod and the only way it will go on. Doesn't seem right, not even sure if the prop rod is correct for 67?
It has a curve Because the passenger side rad bracket is keeping it from raeating flat. Plus the prop rod retainer in the middle of the rad support is not even making contact with the Rod. How could something so simple be so confusing... lol

If this is the correct rod do i have the washers and spring in the correct way?

Membership is on my todo list for this week... my prop rod is different...it enters the front bulkhead piece/radiator support piece (not sure the correct term) from the front... opposite of yours papy... and when it lays down to the drivers side it crosses over that bulkhead, does not hit the radiator and latches on the drivers side catch just as pretty as you please. The slightest of bends in the rod mostly spring tension as it lays down... I’ll join and post photos this week... just removed the wheels to mount new 7.00-15 tires and I can’t back it out to open the hood enough to photo... couple days...

Wanted to keep that top tank with FoMoCo on it.
