Took my bronco on an eastern TN test run to make sure I'll make it to Super Celebration... Everything went awesome and I was able to cruise at about 65 on the highway stretches getting around 13 miles to the gallon. Of course I like cruising the back roads better but sometimes highways are neccessary. Some friends and I got together to camp at the Nolichucky Campground in Erwin, TN. It was a blast, I just wish I got more pics of my camp set up. Hopefully I'll be getting a custom roof rack built soon to make camping out of the bronco that much better... Here are the pics I did get.

Well, I've been cruising the bronco around ever since Super Cel and I guess I should document on my thread that the hood flew up on the way there and is bent up pretty good. That's the reason for the blue hood on it now. Ill try and have someone straighten the original paint hood the best it can be. If anyone happens to come across a nice original pebble beige hood in the future tho, I would probably be a buyer...

The Bronco Nov Run at Uwharrie is coming up this weekend and my goal is to get the fuel system converted back over to a manual fuel pump since the electric pump seems to give me issues with steep grades and high rpms. It will also make getting both tanks working easier. Also need to make an adjustment because for some reason after reinstalling the trans and transfer case earlier this year it doesn't seem to have room in the gate to shift into 4H. It acts like it wants to go but hits the stop in the cover before it gets there.

Hopefully it won't ever happen again. haha... Luckily I scored the blue hood for a great price from Jon Melton.

I got the fuel system working on a manual pump now and it worked flawlessly while out 4 wheeling. I could stand to redo the route of the main line and get it installed back into to stock holders along the frame. Got it operating in 4wd Hi/Low no problem now. Going to work on getting a vent tube welded into my auxillary tank filler neck this week so I can quit stopping for gas every couple of hours.

Well I haven't been doing a ton of bronco stuff lately because of work and the cold weather at night. I did drive it up to Danville, VA to hang with some friends on Tuesday. I need to run a mechanical oil pressure gauge to see what mine is truly running at becasue the gauge is changin too much to know if it is even semi accurate. I'd like to tee a mechanical one in and have it mounted in glovebox for a little extra peace of mind. Ive seen it done but will need to figure out the best way to do that. All the other gauges read pretty darn accurately but the oil pressure just jumps around.

I also decided my carb needs to be rebuilt because trying to clean it otherwise isn't working 100%. It has an electric choke autolit on it now and I'd like to put an original manual choke motorcraft back on it. If anyone has one laying around let me knwo.

Highlight of Tuesday was getting to drive my buddies all original 1940 Woody that he just roadtripped back to the east coast from California.

Picked up a new to me seat. SurferB got a line on it local to him and luckily I was able to score it. I finally drove out the 6 hrs to pick it up last weekend and got it installed. It will serve me while I find someone that can fix the springs and recover mine in the original upholstery.

I also installed an additional oil pressure gauge in my glovebox so that I could comapre to my electric. My electric is reading around 60 and my mechanical around 75 under heavy throttle.

After I put my seat in I asked a buddy if he could double check my carb adjustments since I just rebuilt it and drove it out to his shop. He asked why my valves were so loud and proceeded to try adn adjust them. They weren't bogging down or getting any quieter. Upon further inspection we noticed that the rocker is actually hitting the retainer on top of the spring which is why it is causing so much noise and not allowing for adjustment. I'm not really sure what is going on here and could use a little advice.The guy that assembled my heads obviously knew there was a problem becasue he ground on the rouckers to try and clearance them. My buddy said he asked his local machine shop what they thought might be going on and they said probably the wrong valves? Check out the pics and let me know if you have any ideas.

It looks like your push rods are too short. There's a lot of thread of the rocker stud above the rocker when it is installed. There's like 4 or 5 different lenghts of "stock" 302 pushrods. Measure yours and get a set a bit longer and I think you will be OK..

Well I got new comp cams rail style roller rockers and they seem to do the trick as they were built to clear the heavy duty springs. Machine shop took care of the costs. He measured my push rods and valves and believes everything to be in spec. New rockers have been installed for a coupe weeks and she's running awesome. As some of yall saw I drove it down to the beach last week and I just got home from a day trip up to the mountains. Put about 800+ miles on it in the past week and a half... Hopefully nothing breaks before super celebration. I've got a list of little things to tinker on after the show.
